    No power Hp compaq Cq61

    Got a hp cq61,
When I press the power button nothing happens.
I replaced the Isl power management controller chip Isl 6251 , still the same problem persists. Whilst i was checking voltage i noticed 4 pins on the gateway PQ48 contain 28v the other side no voltage.

Its a major problem with theses Cq61 and hp G61 laptops.

Also tried Win+b to reflash the bios it didn't work it just stayed dead.

here the voltage diagram of bios pin before you press power switch button .

    pin1=0v pin2=1.6v pin3=3v pin4=0v pin5=0.225v pin6=1.6v pin7=3v pin8=3v.

generally the fault is on pin2. if you get 3v at this pin instead of 1.6v , conclude that you have a bad bios . replace it and all will be OK

    hope that helps.

only weak voltage from the bios chip
      all less than 0.03 volts

weak voltage from BIOS chip is form battery?
check the mosfets near the ram slots.
i think that the DC_IN mesfets are there

No battery inserted only AC power supply inserted. Checking mosfets today.

If is Intel board, 90% is bios.
            I'd started from there.

check PQ48 Pin 4, if there is no power so PQ48 not works, you should check with schematic from where the power is...
              hope this can help litle...

Re: No power Hp compaq Cq61

I just fixed one of these. A CQ61-420US came to me with no POST and 2 light flash code. This pointed toward corrupted BIOS. I removed the RAM and tried to power it on. Laptop produced a beep code of "Missing RAM". Installed one stick of RAM, back to 2 lights flashing twice. This tells me that there is no hardware fault since the bios is loaded enough to produce beep codes. If there's a hardware fault like a sloppy solder joint then you will never get to POST. Usually bad GPUs do this.

Anyways, I tried copying bios F15 onto a USB stick and do a recovery. I could hear the beep every 5-10 seconds and it eventually stopped. No luck. So I took the laptop apart and desoldered the 25F16100HIP flash and took a dump. Product information was located @ offset 0x20000. copy 0x20000-0x200FF==256 Bytes. Save it to a file EEPROM.DAT. You'll need this later. Now I dumpped a raw F15 bios directly from HP onto the flash. Soldered it back in and tried to power on. Laptop will not power on at all. Light illuminates for DC jack but laptop will not turn on. I then realized that this laptop was probably running an older version bios. From past experience there are additional microcontrollers which may be updated from a bios update. So you cant use a new version bios, it won't talk right to things like the KBC.

I went to HP and grabbed version F12. The original shipped version. Desoldered, reprogrammed raw bios, resolder. Plugged in the AC and laptop powered on gave me CMOS settings error. Then wireless missing error, then 00A error missing product information. Normal stuff....now I grabbed my branding tools made a bootable 20mb floppy image. Filled with tools, bootloader, and EEPROM.DAT file from earlier. Boot laptop up F9->USB...run nbdmifit.....press W for "Write EEPROM data from file"....enter. Set LAN ID(Use sticker on ram slot).enter.exit.reboot.

Now your back to normal without corruption! Update to version F15 the normal way to prevent this from happening in the future. After comparing dumps and orginals it seems some values are just 1 bit off like 0xA4 instead of 0xA6. It affected bit#2 only. Weird stuff. If you can't solder or read 8 pin SPI Flash modules then you'll need to replace your board or bring it to a shop.

Hi, I'm working on a HP G61 (same board as CQ61) which is dead. Only thing it does is power LED comes on for around 8 seconds before going out.
Ive checked ALW voltages on the board which all seem to be there.
Could you please tell me what I should check for and what is likely to be causing the LED to come on then go out.
The battery is not connected, I just have the board out with power plugged in.
                              Thanks

                                      Hi

Hope I can ask question about this laptop too?
I got this HP PRESCARIO CQ61 and it wont power up, no noise no nothing.

Only the power jack light stays on, when plugged it (wont run on battery either)
                                      No other lights are present.

I taken it apart and kind of trying to find out where the power is stooping
I am not an electronic engineer but willing to go the extra mile and try to learn out of this, maybe someone be willing to help ... ??

                                      I found this diagram
                                      https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...1806b41d08.pdf
but not sure if it is the right one ??? the laptop is an AMD processor.

I checked the power at CN3 slot and the voltage correct:

                                      2 red cables get 19.47V

checked the PC20 the tiny capacitors (i believe it is) and it gets 19.47V
checked the PC14 and it gets 19.47V

checked PD1 and PR6 and both get 19.47V

also checked C24 and there I get 0.01V on either side.
so, not sure where else to check ... or why that capacitor is not working.

I flipped the motherboard to the other side, a just about the same area
where I was taken the previous measurement, there are 2 MOS FETS (i think) close to the RAM slots. so I checked the followings:

                                      PQ45 - 85U03GH

Drain to Source (beeping sound) and goes from 233 down to 0.01
Drain to Gate (no sound) stays 1

                                      PD17 - PS996 SD840S

                                      Pin3 to Pin2 shows 182 (in VOLTS shows 0.23)
whereas Pin2 to Pin3 (beeping noise) and shows -147 (in Volts it shows -0.20)

                                      Pin 1 to Pin 3 = 0.01V
                                      Pin3 to Pin1 = 0.01V

Please advise further .... and sorry about this, I am new to all this
