will laptop work without battery charge controller?

Have an Acer Extensa 5630 that had liquid spilled on keyboard and fried the battery controller BQ24745.
Now only the battery power led blinks when the power button is pressed so now I'm wondering If i remove the battery controller will the computer switch on but unable to charge the battery or does it really need this chip?

A lot more than the battery controller could be fried by a liquid spill... it *should* still work from AC without the '24745 but you will have to permanently fix some signal outputs (like power ok).
