    sony vgn-nr498e no power

so my friend just gave me this sony to look at and when i plugged it in it wouldnt power on at all. so i took it apart and i tested the voltage at the dc jack and it was getting 20v and i was looking over the motherboard and saw this 1r0 had a crack in it. i was wondering where i can find this part, what is this part, and chances it will be the case of the no power issue.

Looks like one of the "4R7"s has a crack in it as well (the part with the PL12 label).
These parts are inductors, and if I remember correctly, the numbers/letters on top indicate the inductance in micro-Henry... so 4R7 should be 4.7 uH and 1R0 should be 1.0 uH.
Not sure if that could be causing your problems or not, but it's probably not a bad idea to replace them anyways.

Depends on which part of the world you live. If you're in the USA, Digikey.com and Mouser.com are the preferred online stores for parts like this. In Europe, I think it's either RS Components or Farnell.

In any case, finding 1.0uH and 4.7uH inductors won't be hard. The hard part is figuring out how much current are the current inductors on your board rated for and what material their core is made of as these parameters may actually be important in this application.

My guess (and this really is only a guess) would be that a 7 to 10A Ferrite Core inductor of a similar size and identical inductance should work. Something like this perhaps:
        http://search.digikey.com/us/en/prod...57TR-ND/775096
But to be honest, I've never had to replace an inductor, so I may be wrong on this. I hope someone with more knowledge than me will chime in this thread soon.
In any case, if you have nothing else to try, this may work.

Another thing you may try is just to look for a similar inductor with the same numbers on top (1R0 or 4R7) on other bad circuit boards.

Those look fine, the core itself is the inductive part and seems to be intact.

As long as the core isn't cracked and there is continuity across the terminals it should work. Just a little bit of cosmetic damage.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
            by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
            by PantherDave
            Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

            Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74 power issue
            by GLISIT
            Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 that will not power on
            by PopsCaps
I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 that will not power on. The indicator flashes red 3 times.
I do not hear any sound and I cannot see any backlight.
I have tried disconnecting every cable on each board one at a time to see if anything changes.
The only change is when I disconnect AC-DET cable on the Power Supply board or on the other end if I unplug the CN7009 connection on the B-Board and try to power on the TV the indicator will stay on solid green until I power off.
My friend ordered another used power supply board but it is also doing the red indicator flash 3 times...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
