dv6000 wont charge or power on

So i have the laptop apart, i put the ac/usb board on a preheater and used hot air to flow the solder. I then put fresh solder on the connectors underneath the actual ac port. The light will come on when plugged in, however it wont turn on. It will turn on with the battery that has been charged externally.

This is the part that needs to be replaced and its cheap.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-DV6000-65W-DC...5#ht_502wt_932

However, i want to verify that it is the cause before ordering it.

I dont understand electronics as well as you all, but i have all the tools. How would i go about using my multimeter to test and make sure this is the cause?

If the laptop turns on with the battery connected then would the mobo be fine? Or is it possible that part of the mobo is bad, the part being where it gets the ac power?

The power board has 2 cables, i assume a cable is for usb and the other is for the actual power.

Also the charger is not at fault, its a charger from another dv6000

Re: dv6000 wont charge or power on

Just so I understand you correctly - the "light" you mention when plugged in; is this the blue light ring around the DC jack or the charge light on the front panel of the notebook?

If its not actually charging the battery, I would check the mosfets around the motherboard where the DC jack cable is located and also around where the battery is plugged in. They will show shorted in both directions when checked with a DMM. The other possibility is the Maxim power controller. It controls the actual act of charging the battery however you usually wouldn't get any standby voltage from it either so the laptop wouldn't turn on with an externally charged battery but I've seen stranger things.

Yes it is on the ac jack. The power cord when plugged in does not charge OR turn on the laptop. The laptop turns on only with the battery. I will check the mosfets, but they are not on the mobo itself they are on the daughter board.

You are going to need to check the mosfets on the motherboard, not on that daughter board. The only electronics on that board are for the USB connector. Follow the positive (yellow or red) wire from the motherboard connector and it should lead first to a P-channel mosfet (AO4407 probably). This is a common problem in these laptops. If it tests fine, you may have a problem with the power controller.

This is a pic of the board, the ac plugs into that and then the 2 plugs go into the mobo. I took a look around the 2 plugs and did not locate a mosfet, i could have missed it though.

alright i found this article from you pointing out the mosfet thanks
but my problem is different, the unit WORKS on battery power but not on ac power
AO4407 is responsible for for working off of battery power. since it does work of battery power but not ac, i dont think its that mosfet.

            is this correct?

That is correct. More than likely it is a faulty power controller. I don't have a spare DV6k board around me right now but I believe these use Maxim 8734 controller. You'll see a small square IC near the battery contacts. These are a bear to replace. You can replace it with some flux and a lot of patience. Check digikey for a replacement. They should be about $6-7 for one.

And lead-free reflows at even higher temp. 150C is the equivalent of hitting it with a hair drier. Sure, it'll work.... for a few days.

Anyway, this is an electronic not an electrical issue. A reflow won't do anything.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

troubleshooting microsoft surface pro 4 no power no led charge light

hello, i have been sitting on some microsoft surface pro 4 tablets for a while now. i was originally tasked with replacing the battery in one of the tablets, and ended breaking the screen and logic board in the process. decided to buy another tablet with the same specs. got that screen off successfully of the second tablet. the logic board appeared good, but i guess i shorted something out in the installation process of the logic which i've read is a common issue if there is no barrier between the logic board and battery pins. all that said, i ate costs of the repair and have...

iPad A2197 no power, A10 and other IC become warm, only 0.5A charge

                      Dear reader

TL;DR: iPad not turning on, A10 and power IC become (very) warm when attempted to turn on but this power-on cycle has a 'cooldown' period wherein powering on doesn't work, does not take more than 0.5A charge.

I am working on an iPad 7th generation 2197 from >2019 with no / limited charging and no boot issues. It is a refurbished purchase made in 2021. It appears the 'refurbish' company has either done prior motherboard work (all protective component shield layers are gone) or is one of the many trash refurbish companies (little screen adhesive left, component...

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
                      by PantherDave
                      Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                      Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...
