Re: toshiba A505 6050a2338701-mb-a01
I have the exact problem with this laptop. Have you gotten any where with it?

Re: I told you!
Depends on which sector you're talking about I suppose. I've been in this business for the better part of 20 years and have heard this argument every few years. Business's for example will always have a need for a desktop system. Kids and tweeners are the driving force behind tablets and smartphones. They certainly have their uses but there isn't a day that goes by I don't hear a story from a customer who either returned their tablet because it didn't do what they were led to believe or they needed to now "supplement" their mobile device with a laptop or...

Re: laptop keyboards faulty/ cleaning
Why not just replace them outright? A new one usually is about $20 - 25. Used ones are usually much cheaper.

Re: toshiba nb200 no display
Every one I've ever had come in my shop has needed to be reflowed and THEN a BIOS upgrade. You sure you *properly* reflowed the GPU (I use this term sparingly since its a netbook Intel GMA)

Re: AMD RadeOn IGP BGA Cold Joints
I see. I've had the same issues. I switched flux and the problem went away. I had some cheap (fake) Kingbo. Went out and spent some money on the genuine stuff and its amazing what a difference its been.

Re: Red Epoxy - The BGA guard
The epoxy remover doesn't work as well. Don't waste your money.

Re: AMD RadeOn IGP BGA Cold Joints
I"m starting to have a TON of these AMD chips needing to be reballed. It's almost as bad as the HP DV problem a few years ago, except this time its not just one manufacturer. Sorry to tell you though, you'll have to take the plunge and continue to master the craft of reballing. The #1 problem with lifted pads is not enough heat from the bottom of the board. My rework station is a tri-zone and the nozzle at the bottom is set to 265C (the temp of the hot air, not the board temp). Soak the board first from the bottom (about 3-5 minutes will do)...

Re: Red Epoxy - The BGA guard
Personally, I use a rework machine that heats it from underneath. At about 80C, I start to remove it with tweezers. By the time I'm done, the board is at about 120C and the stuff comes off like butter. I usually do this while pre-heating the board for chip removal so it's all in one step and I don't have to heat the board twice. Nothing worse than "thinking" you have it all removed, the go to lift the chip only to discover one blob still holding the chip down to the board.

Re: Bad series nvidia chip ?
promoz1, your problem could be with the video ram. Do you have separate video ram on this model?
And yes, I'd recommend a copper shim. DONT use a penny. The correct thickness is paramount.

Re: HP Compaq 6715b possible gpu problem
I haven't seen this particular laptop with this problem but given the chipset its certainly possible that its a GPU issue. I'm getting more and more of this chipset exhibiting the same behavior. Reflow it - you know it won't get any "worse".

Re: question about reflow- it it ever a long term solution?
If I could go around and slap every youtube poster who posted a "penny" fix I would. I don't go a week without seeing one of these "fixes" and after about a week they die, only this time the GPU is now crushed and needs to be completely replaced. The thermal pad has little to do with the problem. It doesn't have the best thermal coefficient for sure but its better than air and in every possible way imaginable better than a penny. I've been doing this for longer than I can remember and have invested a...

The F500 is the Compaq equivalent of the HP DV6000. It has an nVidia 6100 series GPU that needs to be re-worked....

Re: Hard drive click of death
From the sounds of it (in his original description) I would guessed the board had a TVS diode problem but since it powers on another drive its more than likely a bad preamp....

You get anything on an external display? Is this the Intel GMA or nVidia 9300 model?

Re: Hard drive click of death
There is special adaptive information stored on that U12 chip. Purchasing another board isn't going to work - you *have* to transfer the adaptive information to the new board. I haven't read this entire thread so I'm not sure how you matched up the replacement board to begin with. On Western Digital, you would have needed to match up the DCM number exactly - at the very least, the 5th and 6th numbers need to match. It's also better to closely match the date code and country of origin. All this being said, opening the drive has pretty...

Re: HP pavilion dv9000 voltages
The problem of course is that the 60 squib motherboard you purchased is a reworked board itself. You'll get 3 to 6 months out of it then be back to square one. Its a sad reality but people are making a killing off of these ebay boards. I would only purchase one that had been reballed but there is no way to verify this before purchase so you would be taking the sellers word. Not to plug my shop or anything but I've always offered $60 reballs for these boards. It's a much better option than taking a chance on something else....

Re: Compaq Presario CQ62 410c US power supply Question
b700029 - I see what your saying but all (at least in my experience) newer "dell-type" HP adapters have the center pin at ~14v. Just to make sure, I went and tested the 3 different models I have laying around here and they are all 14v, not 3v. Shorting it to 19v certainly isn't ideal but it is in fact a work-around.
