Lenovo Chromebook with peculiar keyboard issue

This chromebook I have exhibits strange behavior that I am unable to figure out. Pressing certain keys on the notebook keyboard, for instance "Control", "t" or "c" by itself will restart the notebook. If I press "2" key, a string of "345789" will show up. I have replaced both the keyboard and the motherboard and the notebook continues to have the same issue. Even with the original motherboard installed, I can attach an external keyboard and it will work just fine but not on the internal keyboard.

What could it be? The storage drive? I am down on culprits and so far do not understand what is going on.

    Can anyone help? Thank you.

Are you shorting anything under this keyboard to the logic board during the keypresses?

I could take a look. Nothing looks suspect when I inspected it. I could also unplug most of the stuff except for keyboard to see if the problem continues. Keep in mind, this continues to occur with new keyboard and motherboard.

Try putting a layer of film/plastic between keyboard and motherboard. Try again.

Re: Lenovo Chromebook with peculiar keyboard issue

I completely removed the motherboard from the notebook housing. I removed the storage drive, the heatsink with a fan, the daughter board and the wifi card. I detached the screen. So, basically only the keyboard+touchpad are connected. My voltage indicator dongle resets when I press "Control", "t" or "c" keys and the red light on the motherboard flashes, also confirming the reset. Remember that I replaced both the motherboard and the keyboard assembly.

So, I am at whits end. Very frustrating to say the least.

That is a very strange issue. Does it have touch screen? Could you just try new keyboard, motherboard with external screen + power wash the chromebook (reset).

I am trying to preserve what's on the storage drive. I thought powerwash will wipe out the data as well? Is there a way to reset hardware without wiping out data? Meanwhile, I will try to see about the external screen. By the way, I am using new motherboard and keyboard assembly now.

                Hello guys!
I have a strange issue with my laptop keyboard and I'm lost trying to detect what's wrong - the KB9028Q-C or the keyboard itself.
It powers on OK and has no other issues except the following:
                • CAPS LOCK does not work at all
                • Fn button toggles Flight Mode
                • When I press 't' or '5', it produces 't5', and when I press 'y' or '6', it produces 'y6'
                • (with SHIFT pressed: 't%' and 'y^' respectively)
I initially thought it was a keyboard malfunction (internal short, etc.),
but when I press and hold...

820-02020 Super Weird Issue: Keyboard Input Character Map "Wrong"?
                by ugamazing
So, I have a really bizarre issue that I'm struggling to identify the cause of. Working on an 820-02020 board with some bizarre keyboard/input-source character mapping. My suspicion is a possible damaged SPI ROM (U1970), perhaps, but I'm really not sure in this case:

                1. The issue is pretty weird, but when installing MacOS, I noticed my WiFi password did not work. I quickly realized the special characters (!@#$%^& etc) were not mapping correctly.

                2. I noticed the keyboard layout/input-source is defaulting to JAPANESE every single time I restore the board. I am not...

i've done several clean installations of windows 10 and 11 to try to resolve why the keyboard and trackpad only works in the bios setup. there are no errors in the device manager. since they work in the bios setup then can i assume that this is a software issue?

                Hi guys!
I recently bought a Lenovo convertible Laptop (Yoga 6 13ALC6) in faulty condition. It originally had a corrupted BIOS but I was able to resolve this by flashing a clean bin. Now the laptop works fine except for one thing, the keyboard. It does not work in Windows but it works in BIOS setup. The keyboard itself is probably not at fault, every single key...
