Trouble with a Macbook Air A2179

When I got the Macbook it had water damage near the USB controller chips. I cleaned it all up and replaced some ugly looking components. The laptop still won't boot. The only rail I'm not getting, as far as I can tell, is PP5v_G3S. However its my understanding that doesn't come on until the T2 powers up.

Which I don't think it is because I'm not reading PPVDSCPU_AWAKE at the 1.06V that I believe it is supposed to be. I'm reading only about .7V. I'm also reading continuity to ground on that rail. According to the schematic Vout on that rail is 0.625-1.06V. So I'm not sure if this is a short on that rail preventing the T2 from powering up or not.

    Any thoughts?

Remove all power. Meter in Diode mode.

    Red meter probe to ground.

Black meter probe to this point to test.

    What is the reading?

I have the same Problem, i got a water damage A2179, I replaced U3100 and 3200, measure C6520 (PP5V_G3s) 0v and diode values at 0.030 with the thermal camera U7400 was in short, I replaced this IC but still PP5V_G3S not present, Measure PPBUS_G3H voltage is 12.25 but normal funtion should be a 12.50 No lucky yeat

Lowest possible resistance on laptop motherboard rail - Guide Table request
          by Nagy Daniel
Hi, I'm Daniel, and I'm new to the world of repairing motherboards.

I would like to create a table, or more likely a guideline about the voltage rails and their possible resistance rail.

I know that the motherboard design has a very big depend on the rail's resistance, but I would like to know what is the smallest value for a rail that can be acceptable. For example, I heard that some new gaming motherboards can have 0,5 Ohm resistance on the GPU rail, but on an older type, it could be a sign of a shorted GPU rail.

So, I generated a table with AI so I can...

Macbook Air 2020 A2179 Internet Recovery and Battery Issues
          by cheebster
Hello, i have a batch of 10 Macbook Pros A2179 bought from a Costco return wholesaler.

          The 10 of them show the exact same behavior;

They auto power on, to internet recovery spinning globe, fans to 100%.

Power consumption on USB-C port is 0.43a, shuts down as soon as unplugged. Battery doesn't charge at all. However, it boots to 20V on the Ampmeter.

Based on their iBridge versions (4.x and 5.x) these were shelfed for a long time.

All of them power on the same way; 100% fans, shut down as soon as they are unplugged. Removing...

General question about MacBook power rails for repair.
          by SarcasticOP
I am looking at an A2337 and found this for the order of power rails and what they do. Can this be confirmed before I dive into hunting down power rails that do not exist or are not neccisary?
          • PPBUS_G3H (12.6V-12.8V)
            • This is the main power rail that supplies power to the entire system. Check this rail first, as it must be present for other power rails to work.
          • PP3V42_G3H (3.42V)
            • This power rail is derived from PPBUS_G3H and is used to power the SMC (System Management Controller) and other essential circuits. It should be present if PPBUS_G3H is working correctly.
          • PPVRTC_G3H (3.3V)

Apple MacBook Pro A2338 820-02773-A AON Rail burnt
          by mferna14
Hi Dear Friend., I am working on a Apple MacBook Pro A2338 820-02773-A. The history was that the AON Rail on the Trackpad connector JT400 was burnt. After I removed the burnt connector, I tested with the meter & no shorts. Connected the USB C power & all booted fine, no problems at all. I soldered a New TP connector put in the old trackpad with a brand new Flex cable. The laptop beeped in the start but no display. I removed the connector & the display was fine again. USED a known good Trackpad & a Flex cable, even with this still the same problem. I checked the connector whether...

A2179 Macbook Air turns ON and works normally with a battery but it is not charging
          by CAPTGENE
I have similar a similar issue. My A2179 Macbook Air turns ON and works normally with a battery but it is not charging. With the USC-C alone it takes 20V but only 100mA, PPBUS is 12.3Volts, and wont turn ON.

I replaced U7000 twice with the same result. not charging!

Whats should I check or replace?
