Fat PS3 no display/crashing with no YLOD

I have an 80gig fat which years ago I overheated while folding for the Badcaps team. Initially it still ran great albeit with artifacting and speckling in PS3 games however it eventually got worse and on things like soft resets for updates and resolution switching the internal video would drop and I would have to connect with my PSP to continue whatever I was doing. Later it would just graphically lock once it got warm and now after about 15 seconds or so of warming up it just locks solid. Normally I would write it off as a fried video chip but it's never thrown a YLOD, so I can't tell if it's just BGA separation which should mean all it needs is a reball.

Fast forward and now I have an earlier 60gig fat with the hardware PS2 emulation but I want to see if I can recover all my game saves off the 80 gig, which are encrypted, so I can't just swap the drive.

Local PS3 reballing has not been a thing for years now so if I wanted to take a shot at bringing the console back I would have to ship it away for rework. Given how it failed would a reball be successful?

did you de-cap and re-paste the chips?
most ylods are actually down to ceramic "tokin" caps btw

I have not done a repaste yet. I only went far enough in to dust the machine out.

I have a post on psx-place for this but thought I'd try here as well in case anyone has experience or the schematics or any kind of help. Here's the original post from psx-place:

Hi, so I bought a YLOD Fat PS3 as I wanted a repair project and thought it would be a good way to get experience. I was able to solder to the RX, TX and Diag pads on the COK-002 motherboard and was able to get external access and retrieved the codes. I haven't powered it on beforehand so these should be the last ones. I did try to get internal access immediately after but kept getting scopen response...

Please, help: HP Elitebook 1030 G2 keeps crashing and turning on automatically
        by Zilicon
i've been working on the above PC for some time now, but the fault remains unsolved.

        Behavior:
less than 2 weeks after the battery and keyboard of the pc were changed, the pc started crashing and restarting on its own. it keeps doing that at approximately an hour intervals, at times, it becomes shorter than that.

When it crashed, there was no BSOD of any kind; the power button did not misbehave; the pc did not overheat either.

        what I have done:
cleaned the ME of the BIOS firmware, changed the thermal paste, removed all peripheral devices- (keyboard,...

        MSI Modern 15 B7M - MS14-JK1 (14JK1) - Intermittent Crashing - iGPU?
        by corbyn
        Hey all,

This laptop came in with hard resetting crashing, not even blue screening after a few minutes on the desktop, same result with Linux Mint.
Strangely it seems stable plugged in on compatibility mode (nomodeset llvmpipe) which tells me I think the AMD Ryzen 7530u Radeon iGPU is cooked, but it also points to something strange with the buck converters or VRMs maybe.
Inspecting the board under the scope there's nothing obvious.
Crashes on charger and battery in iGPU Radeon drivers
Crashes on battery in no driver mode
        Seemingly Stable in charger and...

Xbox Series X - crashing to dashboard shortly after launching games
        by survivalbloke
Hey all! I've got a XBOX Series X which came in with the complaint of games crashing to the dashboard after launch. I've tested a few games so far. Red Dead Redemption I observed will load up fine and sit on the menu no problem, but once I actually load into the world, it will not complete the load-in, and crash, stating something about an error must be sent to Rockstar, etc.. Truck simulator seemed to work fine. Minecraft loaded up and zoned into a world, but within a few seconds, it too, crashed to the dashboard. Where are the logs stored? What should I check?
