    Icom 211E no transmit

    I am wondering if anyone can help me with this set, I have this radio on the workbench which presented with no transmit or rather no RF output. a look at the service manual I have for and I was able to trace the problem back to R141 which is a 10 ohm half watt resistor on the collector of Q35, which had gone open in a bad way. I checked around the stages looking for a short to ground and did not find anything amiss. The RF stage and final appear serviceable so I reluctantly replaced the resistor and powered up expecting the resistor to fail again.

    To my surprise this brought about the restoration of RF output and returned the radio to full operation, about 8 watts out which I understand is about right for the set. It performed faultlessly for about three weeks then the resistor which I had been monitoring closely for failed in the same way

    I have attached the service manual any help would be appreciated

    Put the radio on a good 13.8V PSU. Key the radio in CW and measure the current draw on the PSU and the RF power output. I think Q35 is in charge for TX9V. That means, if this transistor isn't getting any power (blown resistor 141) the radio will not even key up anything at all (no IF oscillator and IF amp and no biasing in the driver circuit). So something is drawing current and that resistor must get really hot. So the first thing I'd look at is the biasing in the drivers circuit. Hope this helps some... 73!

      I am finding the is very intermittent, having replaced the resistor again, on an external supply the set draws around 3.5 amps on transmit into a 50ohm load while producing 8 watts. The audio sounds good and the radio gets excellent on air reports when working. Q35 is part of the transmit switching, these sets were known for the rf stages self oscillating but was monitoring the radio output when it last failed.

      A thermocouple placed upon the resistor and heat sink for q35 showed nothing unusual, that said when the resistor does fail it does so in rapid time, it is performing well again at the moment.

        is the 9v really 9v and stable?
        if it jumps to 12v the current will increase.

          It measures around 9 volts and appears stable from both bench psu and internal supply, I suspect that I have located the problem, radio killed by tone board more specifically the switch that enables said tone board which shares that line appears to have a ground short. Mechanically it seems damaged and the switched line to the tone board is at groun.

          I am not sure where to go now as to get to replace or remove said switch which is located behind three ancient pcb boards and just as antique soldering looks to be a real rats nest.

          I have looked for the while wire leaving the defective switch with a view of terminating it, but don't seem able to find it

            Well hopefully the problem has been resolved to a satisfactory outcome, since there are almost no Uk repeaters that still use the 1780hz tone burst for access the feature is somewhat redundant. In view that the switches themselves are probably not available and accessing the area would be a nightmare I was able to hook the wire out from behind the switch and cut it there since it disappeared into the mass of wiring. The 10 ohm resistor (second) replacement looks a little scorched but still reads 10 ohms.

              ive got a modern digital clock radio approx 15yrs old

              my question is how long can a clock radio or a simple radio last ss farcas operating hours?

              since elec components have limited hour lifecspan i would imagine the radio or clock radio would eventually fail.

              the reason i ask is because i have my clock radio on radio function 24/7 for the past 7 years and its still working fine....i leave the radio on ..never turn off past 7years...thats approx 60000 hours

              it uses very little power just a few watts i would imagine that may have something...

              I am trying to repair an ancient Dell 2209WA Monitor which suddenly shut off with a pop sound. On investigation found that one of the fusible resistors had blown. Further investigation identified multiple components as faulty because of which the fusible resistor blew. Please refer the attached circuit diagram showing the components that were found to be damaged.

              1. FR950 - blown fusible resistor - 0.2 Ohm 1W
              2. Q950 - shorted Q950 MOSFET - 650V 10A N Channel Mosfet
              3. R835 - Blown Resistor - 20KOhm SMD resistor
              4. D930 - Shorted Schottkey Diode...

              Need help to replace burned resistor in 350w atx psu

              Hi to all forum members,

              Got this faulty 350 watt atx psu dirt cheap from a local online seller as i am keen to use it as a learning tool to repair faulty power supply.
              The faulty part is quite obvious from the burn area near the 16pin KA7500 BD pwm. The fuse is still intact with good continuity.

              Upon power on ac, there is 5vdc standby power on cathode of diode D14 and about 10vdc on cathode of diode D13.(This should be the aux power to generate the 12v and 5v rail.)
              Initially i replace the two burned resistors near my marked red arrow to 200 ohm resistor...

              Dear all,

              I have this old radio clock by Sony from the early 80s, I guess. The clock display works, but is dim, the function board appears to be OK - but the radio unit shows no signs of life. It doesn't produce a single noise, crack or anything from either FM or AM band. It's like it doesn't even power up.
              i opened the radio and it is full of some TRACON gray capacitors. They only have their negative strip printed, voltage and capacitace markings - no series, no temperature marking, nothing else.
              My question is, do you know of this brand of capacitors and how bad are...

              I am curious if a 0402 resistor could go from 43 ohm to 0. In electronics class and my experience a resistor can degrade and gain resistance all the way up to not being able to conduct at all. I have never heard of a resistor decreasing in resistance and becoming 0 ohm or a dead short… that's not the direction they fail… or so I thought.

              I was attempting to remove a wson8 chip on an iMac motherboard and it required a lot of heat, on one side of the chip were 3 0402 resistors that were very close. I popped the chip out unintentionally out of the tweezers and sent those resistors...
