    Comcast cable boxes

Man, we have had to have Comcast replace our cable box, three times if I recall, correctly. I'm always tempted to just open up the box and recap it in hopes I'll stop having dying units. But I don't because I'm afraid they'll use that as an excuse to charge me to replace it if that doesn't work.

Does anyone know if they get flakey due to crap caps? Or is it a different issue?

Is it a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250C or the like? Are you randomly losing audio and have to change the channel and then go back to that channel to get audio again? Is it randomly completely failing to respond after a black out or brown out occurred?

      Re: Comcast cable boxes

Not sure what Comcast is using these days, I haven't had them for almost 10 years, but back when I had them they were a combination of Motorola and Scientific Atlantic boxes (and were handing out some really old boxes as well, so failures were very common) was pretty much the "luck of the draw" with them.

Verizon FIOS (which I have now) seems to be 100% Motorola (at least in my area), I'm on my 3rd box in the last 10 years on my main TV, the last two failed due to bad caps in the PSU (Capxon and Ltec) it seems like they make it 4-5 years or so before failing, my current box has Ltecs on the output side of the PSU (PSU board is a Liteon) as well, the logic board in my current box has all polymer caps. Like the OP I could have easily repaired these, but didn't want to risk it since they were going to replace it for "free" (of course they charge a $10/mo. fee for the box regardless) anyhow, it was just the inconvenience of having to wait for a replacement and drop the old box off at UPS. In both cases they sent me a brand new box though, if they had sent me a used box instead which would be more likely to fail for a short period of time I would have been much more likely to attempt a repair (or preventatively recap the replacement box).

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)
        by Tr0ll
Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

        Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

        First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

        Lenovo Thinkpad E15 Gen 2 NM-D011 - No display ? External , yes!
        by AccountSaver
Here is a pretty crazy one.

        Step 1.
Laptop was brought to me as dead not working. Removed everything , cleared everything.
        Step 2.

Some liquid damage close to the Type - C connector, and the connector even though it was cleaned wasn't charging the battery . Removed the Type-C port, and replaced it. Now the laptop turns on and charges battery. Shows external screen , not internal.
        Step 3.

Took out the screen and checked it to a secondary Gen 2 i have, screen works like a charm.
        Step 4.

Lets ,dive into the board. I see the edp cable on the...

HP-Pavilion x360 Laptop Dead After USB-C Cable Connection
        by fweonea
While at university, I connected my HP-Pavilion x360 14-dw0156ng laptop, running Windows 10, to a monitor using a provided USB-C cable. Immediately after this, my laptop's screen turned black and the device stopped working entirely. There are no signs of life such as fan noise or LED indicators, holding the power button does nothing. I've previously used this same monitor model and cable without issues, the cable typically charges the laptop as well.
I've attempted holding the power button for over 30 seconds, removing and reinserting the battery, and trying to power it on with only the...

Help me make charger USB C cable with no cc pins!!
        by marce002
        Hi all, please

I just want to make a "usb c" charging cable from 5V power supply (have cut cable w/ red black green and white pins connected from factory.... i just want to use 500mah max !

How do I connect this ? if I do not have CC1 /2 physically wired, how to proceed?

NOTE: an identical new (not cut) USB A to USB C cable charges my phone but not the remote control!

here is a picture of the remote, the cable to be used and a picture of what are the factory connected pins

        thanks in advance!!

Hannspree HT 273 HPB USB cable type A to type B?
        by paparazzo79
        Hi guys.
I purchased the monitor from the link below:
        https://www.hannspree.eu/product/ht-273-hpb/
Since I will be using monitor from bed, I'd need longer usB type A to type B plug cable.
I got one which is 4.5m long, regular one
May I use it without harm to the monitor?
I suppose cable which came with monitor is regular type A to type B,not some speical cable.
I could picture what is labeled on the cable, if it matters for assistance.
