    Xbox 360 No Power

    I have a 360 that doesnt turn on with power it gives instant RROD. I have looked at a few guides about mosfets but they seem to be different in the steps.

    For example this guide says i need to touch the neg to the drain pin and the pos to the gate.

    Then this guide says to touch the neg to the source and the pos to the gate then drain.

    So far i have removed the coils so that i can test the mosfets without removing them from the board

    I now have the problem of figuring out which mosfets are bad, since the instructions are confusing

      The first link you posted seems pretty self explanatory and sounds right to me. I'm not an expert at this stuff. But if you read up on mosfets, that post makes perfect sense to me and seems like a logical way to test if it the fet is working.

          RROD is a very general error, typically means hardware fault. Can be anything from reballing/reflowing the cpu/gpu to bad power or bad caps.

          Just curious why you think its a power problem, what lead you to that conclusion?

          I have a broken one with same problem that i still havn't gotten around to look at

              Well it depends on the error code for this console its 0001 and it turns off right away. Other error codes such as 0102 indicate the need for reflow/ reball, its all in the codes.

                      Ahh, so you had the error code at hand, not just the rrod. Like toasty said I've heard of bad caps and similar in the psu so that might be worth checking out before digging to deep inside the box, or if you have a friend with a working xbox borrow their powerbrick and try it first before proceeding to save some troubleshooting time.

                              I bought my son a used Xbox One original model: A12-220N1A Rev: 02 with original PSU & 2 controllers 7 years ago. I “modded” the unit placing a 4.5” 12V exhaust fan with a 9v wall wart adapter on top of the vent/fan of the unit. And plugged the Xbox PSU into a Tripplite LTR-600 voltage regulator.                               Hi All,

                              My original PSU for XBox popped a little while ago, openened it up, fuse gone, mosfets shorted, etc. I ordered a cheap one (Not Microsoft Original). This one also popped the weekend, opened up, and needed a couple of Caps to be replaced, as the saying goes, "it is always a cap..."

                              When I opened the replacement I bought, it has about 25% of the number of componenets compared to the Microsoft original, which is expected I suppose for the 1/4er of the price, but the bloddy thing does not even have a fuse in!!!

                              Unfortunately wife has cleaned...

                              Hi, I'll start by saying that I'm not an expert and I've reached a point where I don't know what to try/do anymore...
                              Starting from the beginning: I opened this subwoofer for the first time with a very strong smell of burnt electrical components, I realize that on the amplifier board there is a hole between V+ OUT and GND about the size of a finger, the damaged components were the shorted mosfets, two damaged zener diodes and two capacitors. I bought everything, I fixed the hole by cutting the pcb and putting a piece of a perforated board.
