Hi All, I recently picked up two HP z420 PCs that have a boot block date from 2011 and are still on BIOS rev 1.02. I've been doing some reading and I need to first update to 1.07, then 1.23 before I can update to the most recent (3.96 I think it is), but I can't for the life of me find a download for the older versions. The official HP links are broken and this is the first place I found with any downloads but it seemed like these may be custom edited BIOS files so I wanted to query SMDFlea and see if they could send me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for any help.Comment

You can step up to version 1.23 first then to the latest.Read the comments by DGroves --> https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Busine...s/td-p/8078192

Do I need to use the PC I am attempting to update to access them?
Thanks Again!

I appreciate the response. I already found that post prior to responding to this one and could not get the links to work in Edge or using FileZilla on 2 different windows PCs, one an HP laptop.

Hi everyone! I assembled two Z420 machines. One started without any issues, but I ran into problems with the second one. The motherboard (618263-002) started up for the first time with a v1 processor. I updated the BIOS, replaced the CPU with a v2, and it stopped booting. Nothing helped, including returning to the first v1 CPU the fans just throttling and the screen remained black. I tried emergency recovery with a flash drive, but it didn’t work 8 flashes and 8 beeps appeared at startup.
I created a dump, inserted the padding section into the BIOS 3.96 from the website, but that also didn’t help still 8 flashes and 8 beeps.

Thank you for your prompt response! Since all the components were purchased separately I don’t have a sticker with the serial or product number.
But based on the BIOS dump the serial number is 2UA4271JTZ
The product number is most likely LJ449AV
The motherboard part number is 618263-002

Hi all, I've spent the past week digging through the forums and guides to try correct my foolish mistake of changing hidden settings while tinkering around, and to be honest my heads overloaded so I'm hoping you'll be able to help.
I used a tool called 'Smokeless-UMAF' to access usually hidden settings in the bios. I tweaked one or two 'safe' things but made the mistake of tweaking a lot of settings under 'USB/Thunderbolt Configurations' when I didn't know what they did. For...-

Hi, I have a few of these & they came with a custom bios boot logo, no passwords etc.
2 x were brand new unused but with custom boot logo, 1 I installed Windows/ran updates then it bricked itself. 1 wouldn't get past the custom bios boot logo.
The third I loaded windows, took a backup of the bios chip, then tried to flash several different clean bios's via programmer which all caused it to not boot. I tried to reflash the original bios both using clip & desoldering but...-

by jbonavitaHi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
Some issues
A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized
Things I tried
1- Update / clear ME: Took the non working bios, made a backup, and did this: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...theory/trouble...-

by zeniusHello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.
Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...-
