    8KHA+ symptoms

I have capacitors that are leaking, but I'm posting the problems I've had so other people know what to look for.

The problem started around August 2004. The computer rebooted for no reason several times in one week. Several weeks later it rebooted for no reason again, then rebooted after rebooting. The third time it booted all the way to the desktop, the I got a BSOD with a Stop error. I looked up what I could about the error, didn't find much useful information and the computer continued to run ok, so I left it at that.

I normally leave the computer on at all times, but if I leave for a few days I'll turn it off. After coming home and turning the computer on I experiences the problem with it booting to the desktop, then a BSOD. This continued every time I booted the computer after it cooled down to room temperature. The Stop errors were different every time. Rarely they would point to a driver. The problem started occuring when I was using the computer with random stop errors, sometimes it would reboot.

Since the WinXP installation was three years old I thought it could be XP. I finally reinstalled XP last week because the problem was driving me nuts. I ran Memtest86 and MS Memory Diagnostic and memory appeared to be OK. I then ran Prime95 in the stress test mode and received errors within several minutes. My thought was this could be a bad CPU or possibly the chipset on the motherboard went bad. Since I had a spare Duron I thought I would swap that out to see if the problem would reoccur with another CPU. That is when I noticed the bad capacitors around the CPU and motherboard voltage regulators. In my troubleshooting the thought that I was having symptoms of a bad power supply did cross my mind, but I planned to swap that out after the CPU. Well, capacitors are an important part of voltage regulation, so it all added up.

The various random Stop Errors included: 0x0000001E, 0x00000050, 0x0000007A, 0x100000D1, 0x0000000A, 0x0000007E, 0x0000008E, with descriptions such as DATA_BUS_ERROR, SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, and an individual description was not tied to any particular Stop Error. It was completely random. More puzzling was receiving the same combination for stop errors and description several times in a row. For example, I would receive 0x100000D1 and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL linking it to nv4_mini.sys for about five times in a row, then several hours later I would get a different combination blaming it on usbport.sys, or any other driver. Oddly, this would occur instantly if I click on something with the mouse. It doesn't matter if I click on a link or a drive in Explorer.

Now I need to decide if I want to replace the capacitors. I have the electronic background, but I'm not sure if I want to mess around with it. I sure do like the 8KHA+ though. Aside from the capacitors, it is an excellent motherboard. I guess I should see if I can find a source for good capacitors at a reasonable price. JDR Microdevices has them, but they don't list the brand on their website. I guess I can call around a few places locally tomorrow to see if they are available.

glad you found the problem, i would check with JDR Microdevices what caps they are providing cos anywhere it just says "radial electrolytics" they are pretty sure gonna be standard ones and not the recommended low esr ones. better try digikey or mouser.

i am sure that if you read all the info carefully and follow the procedures taking your time you will be successful in replacing the caps and having a perfectly stable board.

Well, they are only rated 20% tolerance but the ESR value is more important.
I would get the better caps like Sanyo or Rubicon and only have to change them once.

Seven Leagues Slot Machine stop button issues
        by x_orange90_x
I don't know if anyone here has experience with Japanese slot (pachislo) machines, but I sure hope so. I bought this machine last week in semi-working order. It would play and the reels would spin, but the stop buttons would not stop them at all. I found that the high-frequency filtering tantalum capacitor was bad on the reel stop board, along with the fuse being blown. I replaced the fuse and removed the capacitor. I haven't replaced the cap yet because I didn't have one on hand, but it's not necessary for the operation of the machine.

The issue now is the Stop buttons are intermittently...

Nvidia MATS help please - 33 errors on two cards?
        by chappers
        Hi,

I'm new to MATS and can only use it after watching a Youtube video, downloading the one he linked to (version 400.184) and running it without changing anything. I have no great understanding of it.

I have 3 graphics cards in the house.

My son's - Palit GTX 1080 used for 3D games constantly.
Mine - Nvidia GTX 1080 not used for 3D games, just basic stuff.
Inno3D RTX 2080 I bought faulty hoping to repair for my son's PC.

Running MATS on my son's GTX 1080 gives a pass with no errors.

A1989 EMC3214 can't boot to USB drives due to T2 but SSD can't be initialized and Macbook freezes then reboots in recovery
        by MullySculder
Hey folks, I'm working a 2018 13" Macbook Pro that I can't get to install an OS on.

This was given to me by a friend who told me I could have it, if I fixed it.

I've noticed a couple of dents on the laptop case and the touch bar doesn't have any activity lights when first turning on. When I boot up the machine, it gives a folder with a question mark. When I do eventually get to internet recovery with High Sierra, I can go to Disk Utility but I'll get errors when I try to erase the 512GB SSD. First Aid comes back with no issues. But if you linger too long on anything,...

There was a short circuit on the video memory power supply. Replaced all memory with new memory. The short circuit is gone.

Now the laptop turns on and works. But heats up a lot. Turned on with external cooling. In Windows the video card is detected but after installing the correct drivers it gives error 43.

In MATS test on 5mb writes a lot of errors on all memory channels on the record. (Attached report)

Asrock H87-Pro4 Rev. G/A 1.04: Power cycling on reset only
        by MyBrainIsAStrainer
        Hi!

I have a weird one for you. I have a H87-Pro4 from Asrock that power cycles. But only when you do a restart after it was already running!

        Symptoms in detail:
        1. I switch off the ATX PSU for ~15-20 seconds, then switch it back on again.
        2. I press power button. The board boots without issues.
        3. I can shut down the board any way I want (via OS* menu, or pushing the power button - either in the OS or the boot manager).
        4. Push power button again, board boots fine.
        5. This shutdown/powerup can be repeated multiple times without problems.
        6. BUT: If I do a restart instead
