• Re: Bad capacitor in a VCR?

Because people would rather pay more money for a fancy looking piece of junk than they would for a quality product.

Anyway, I placed a new capacitor in place of the one that was bad. It works, except the power supply is overheating and the front panel display isn't working. I called JVC about the power supply, they said send it in for repairs at no charge. They had a bunch of these that have bad power supplies and are extending the warranty on this issue. I just may send it in since it is actually a nice DVD player.

  • Re: Bad capacitor in a VCR?

I just picked up a non-working JVC DR-MV1 DVD Player/VHS combo from a thrift store for S2.99 I plugged it in at the store, it lit up and shut off right away. I figured it was a power supply problem and the price was worth the gamble if I couldn't fix it. I took the cover off and plugged it in. I get almost the same symptoms Tom41, with the only difference being the squeal coming from the power supply board after I unplug the AC from the wall. After closer inspection I noticed a 1500uF electrolytic bulging. The brand of this particular capacitor is ELNA....

  • OST RLX 0444 capacitors

Anyone know anything about these capacitors? I ordered a new Epox 8VTAI and this is what is on them.

For the record, I called Asus, Epox, MSI, Gigabyte, and another motherboard manufacturer. They all claim they are only using Sanyo, Panasonic, Rubycon or Nichocon on all new motherboards. I took a look at the displays at Frys, the information given to me over the phone turned out to not be true. All the brands have at least some crap brand capacitors on them. Epox told me they only use Sanyo. MSI states Nichocon or Panasonic only. My assumption is they don't know what brands are...

  • What I meant is send a new, as in current model, motherboard. I know why they don't do it and I disagree with it. Companies spend as much, if not more, fighting stuff like this than it would cost them to take care of their customers in the first place.

I have an Abit KT7A-Raid. My experience with them over the problems with that board finished me off with Abit. For their cost in the production of the board they could have kept a customer. Instead they chose to send me through RMA hell with the dealer, which refused to take care of the problem because Abit wouldn't reimburse them...

  • Why not just replace the boards with a new model? After the cost of shipping, unpacking, repairing, repacking and shipping the board back to the customer they will be spending at least as much as it would cost THEM to send a new board to the customer. If it were up to me I would just send new boards out and save the cost on labor for repairing the board. Of course companies have some 'principle' they base their decisions on to justify screwing people. It is these kinds of actions that make me think they look at the bad capacitors as a guaranteed way to sell new motherboards several years down...

  • 8KHA+ symptoms

I have capacitors that are leaking, but I'm posting the problems I've had so other people know what to look for.

The problem started around August 2004. The computer rebooted for no reason several times in one week. Several weeks later it rebooted for no reason again, then rebooted after rebooting. The third time it booted all the way to the desktop, the I got a BSOD with a Stop error. I looked up what I could about the error, didn't find much useful information and the computer continued to run ok, so I left it at that.

I normally leave the computer on at all times,...
