Hardware monitoring programs like MBM dont give real accurate measurements it merely reads bits in registry locations set by the Winbond, etc chips, but is invaluable in logging temp/voltages for load/idle comparison. For accuracy, you are better off using a multimeter.

Well, they are only rated 20% tolerance but the ESR value is more important.
I would get the better caps like Sanyo or Rubicon and only have to change them once.

Cool, and you can get very small gauge solder at your nearest RadioShack but it would be nice to pick up a anti-static wristband while you are there.
You will see plenty of cap changing advice in this forum and the BC.net home page. Forget the solder sucker, a sewing needle is much better.

The soldering is not too difficult, just use common sense when removing the old caps since the 6-layer PCB absorbs a lot of heat.
Get all the new replacements (Rubycon, Sanyo or Panasonics are good) ahead of time. EPoX will charge return shipping at least but are committed to replacing the bad caps if within warrantee period.
Tools: a 25 watt soldering pencil, sewing needle and needle-nose pliers are all you need.
I replaced all the GSC caps on my 8RDA+, took about an hour to relace ten.
(but I practiced on an old board first)Last edited by bETAbILLY; 03-16-2005, 02:42 PM.

Heh,Heh. I had a coffee maker that had GSC crapacitors, needless to say I tossed that unit instead of fixing it.

Hey, Topcat!
"Old IWILL forum"...... that was quite a while ago, I still have an XP333R, will never forget the number of OS re-installs I had to do after trying to hit 200 fsb with that ALI chipset.
At the time I replaced the 10 GSC crapacitors, no one mentioned the Teapos were next in line to go fubar. But I've been very happy with the 8RDA+ and since I have it out of the case I'll get rid of the Teapos..Hey, Topcat!

Not only do GSC caps have incomplete electrolytic formulation causing hydrogen gas buildup, they have also exibit values that can vary +/ - 39% when new....

EPoX prolly sent you a different mobo, I'm sure by now they wouldnt be using GSC caps.

Looks dont matter
I have a 8RDA+ that served well for a year, then the overclock ceiling started falling, checked all the caps and none looked bad but I went ahead and replaced all the GSC caps on the board. Used Rubycons as replacements, left the Sanyos and Teapos alone...now the board performs like it did when new.
Twas too nice a board to let die.
