Voltage irregularity - Still worth re-capping?

I have an EPOX 8RDA+ boards and it definately has a bad cap issue. However the Vdd (voltage across the processor I belive) given by the PC health when the computer first boots was low and flucuating. Trying to discover the source of this problem I noticed the caps are LONG gone.

However, is the damage tothe voltage regulation perminent or a function effected by the failing capacitors? Aka, would it be worthwhile to replace the caps (I have the tools and the soldering skill) or should I just order a new mobo as the V is permantnely gone?

If the board is still functional (which it appears to be, since you can see the pc health), recapping will quite likely fix the voltage problem, assuming Vdd is indeed the cpu core voltage. (and not, say, the 5v line)

Yeah, that voltage that is low is supposed to be at 1.5V so its definately not the 5 line.

recapping will make the lines rock solid and we wanna see the recapping pics. If you still have low voltage then a new psu is required. If the caps are gone then take it out of service now. permanent damage to the board you can see after the recapping. prolly there is nothing.

Yeah, I already replaced my PSU as the first guess as what was wrong with it. Guess I should of thought that out some more before I did that :*-(

heh, sorry if that was confusing. I was saying that I should trouble shooted the problem more extensively before I went and replaces the Power Supply.

dont worry next time you see some instability with a comp you will open up the case and check the caps. good luck with your recapping.
