    Repairing RX460 , VRM?

    Hi guys

In my spare time to upskill myself I buy joblots if stuff to fix , or attempt fixing and get some experience

I have a r460 that I wanted to fix and give to my nephew
As shown there is a burned ferrite bead, next to a high/ low side VRM pair on the back side of the card

I'm gonna try replacing these pair of VRMs. I wondered how hard they are to remove
I have a decent sequire solder iron and hot air, though may need to get a hot plate.. Seems these VRMs have big contact plates and could be welded

Also seemingly ferrite beads on GPUs are usually 0ohm right? Need to get some of those

    Fuse is blown too

Pictures are attached.. will update progress if any

The fuse immediately after the PCIE 12V in from motherboard ( 75W ) .. I have ordered new fuses .. Though unsure of the ferrite bead value here .. Cant seem to get a pack of various values

It looks like a ferite bead only, so you can replace it with a solder bridge, at least for testing purproses.
MOSFET next to it look like they've been damaged and changed before? If so, and if these are for the RAM V_dd rail, chances are the GPU's dead beyond revival. Common to see V_dd rail shorted on AMD GPUs. But let's cross our fingers here and hope that's not the case. Give the ferite bead a solder bridge across and pray to the GPU gods a little.

          Ok This is now fixed

It was fixed by replacing 6508 the mosfet, with a similar N channel mosfet from a donor . This was an educated guess since the resistance from 12V was lowest here , around 500 Ohms

Replacing the ferrite bead just blew the fuse

Strangely this card works in PCIE X8 but when PCIE x 16 , there is artificing , fuzzy vertical bars ..

Also Device manager shows as Asus , not Gigabyte .. The VBIOS is gigabyte and re-flashed it for good measure

              3090 FE Part Confirm/Identification
              by H H
              Hello,

I'm hoping someone could help me confirm if I have identified the following parts correctly.

Apparently the DP cable became stuck inside the graphics card and was yanked out. This caused some sort of short which burned the DP contacts and blew some resistors and ferrite beads.

The parts needing replacement are on the back of the board behind the HDMI input.

I have identified the parts as the following:

              C6037: MLCC 0.1uf/16v(0402)x7R W05

              R6016: RES 499 OHM 1/16W (0402) 1%

              LB10911: Ferrite Bead (0402)...

Burned ferrite bead RTX 2080 LB617
              by Borges
have purchased an RTX 2080 which contains a scorched component. I have carefully removed it with a heat station. The card is not short and it works, but it is seen with artifacts.

The problem is that I cannot find the characteristics of the component anywhere. I am going to attach a photo in case someone has the same graphics card and can measure the component or if someone knows which one I have to buy. I would really appreciate it

Repairing cables - ferrite bead and strain relievers
              by tmcw
Does anyone know how best to re-adhere ferrite beads and strain relievers to cables, like when repairing a games console controller that has had wires broken near where the cable emerges from the controller?

I found that the bead and reliever need to have a twist drill passed through to allow a fresh part of the cable to go through when the bad portion of cable was cut away. The material that came out was hard like the plastic cable cover, not like a silicone based material I half expected.

Does anyone know how it's done at the factory?

Dell XPS 8100 Motherboard VRMS keep blowing
              by 90Ninety
I wanted to save this thing from E-waste ... I helped a neighbour with their Dell PC , it had a blown visably blown VRM causing a short on the 12V EPS ..

I replaced this VRM which fixed the short but, the high side VRM's keep blowing , seemingly the same two phases .. I replaced the low side mosfets on the respective blown phases . Though still the High side VRMS are blowing ..

After a few minutes one of the four phases will get extremely hot , then blow ..

I purchased replacement VRMS both High Side (72T02GH) and Low side (86T02GH). Pictured below , I just...

MacBook Pro A1398 820-3662 CPU VRMs
              by ACS-Repair
              Hello All,
I'm having trouble replacing the CPU VRMs on my 820-3662A. This board was crashing randomly and I know the VRMs are the usual suspect.
I removed all three of the VRMs but after I replaced them, only the Phase-1 VRM was working (it gets very hot, the others are cold). I get 1.29v on the VRM coil outputs, which appears to confirm that only one phase is operating.
To prove this I removed the VRMs for Phase 2 and Phase 3, then powered the board up. The VRM output is a 1.29 with only U7310 connected. I decided to replace the controller U7200 but it did not change the...
