    Epox 8K5A3+ Recap

Hello, I have two Epox 8K5A3+ boards with bad caps. Both have the exact same caps bulging. The caps that are on these boards are the GSC brand. I was thinking of trying to repair one of them.

I was going to replace all the GSC caps but the guy in the electronics shop said only to replace the ones that are bulging since the others could be perfectly fine. I did say to him that there were a lot of people having problems with them but he said you can get bulging caps with any make. He says the motherboards he repairs with bulging caps he just replaces the bulging ones.

Now I am not sure what to do since being told this and also there is a big price different. To replace all the GSC caps would cost round about £15 vs £3 to replace the bulging ones.

    What's the best way?

    Thankyou

I suggest you replace all GSC in your mothbaord after i viewed your photo, like the photo with yellow circles. If you are outside of US/Canada, shoot me a PM for caps with best price. Otherwise, contact badcaps.net/Top Cat.

      OK, PM sent.

Looking at the board again it has not just GSC but Sanyo and Teapo. Two of the Sanyo's appear to be going by looking at the base. I think I can see the plug coming out.

caps can be at a minor angle from installation or due to handling the board.

plug comes out due to very bad manufacture, ie the plug becomes the failure point and not the vent. this is seen on the worst brands. it would be obvious to see if you check the bottom of the caps, you would see the bung protruding a few mm.

Sony RCD-W3 Deck A (Playback only) not playing CDs (Disk Error) repair
              by goodpsusearch
Recently I was given for free a Sony RCD-W3 with the following symptoms, CD recorder drive reads CDs without any issues (haven't tested recording function yet because I don't intend to burn CDs on that machine) but the reader drive shows disc error after some seconds of it trying to read CD. Tried both CD-Rs and commercial audio CDs with same results.

First thing to do was to clean the lens but that didn't change anything. Googling the issue revealed that this is a common issue on several Sony CD recorder machines and the culprit is SMD electrolytic caps located on the PCB bellow...

              Denon AVR-X2000 mainboard caps bulging
              by re-atari
I have been using a Denon AVR-X2000 receiver in my living room for several years now, works perfectly, am very pleased with it. Recently I acquired another one, advertised as defective with flashing red led a few seconds after switching on. Picked it up to try repair and use in hobby room. After switching on, the on/off indicator led indeed initially flashes green for about 2 seconds, during which the display is visible, and then starts flashing red (at 2Hz) with a switched off display.

I'm afraid the service manual is too large to upload here (55Mb), it can be found at https:/...

              Hi,

Is there anybody here who could tell me what are the two caps marked bellow? Or atleast send me a picture of those two caps from their board. Size wise I think those will be 2200uF10v, the same as in the CPU VRM, but not sure....

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000
              by Paxman_Swede
              Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...
