    Abit VT6X4 problems

    Hi everyone

A great deal of good information on this site. Has anyone had experience with the failure rate of the Abit VT6X4?

After system freezes using some graphics programs and going through all the usual procedures to locate software and/or driver problems, uninstalling/reinstalling, w2k repair, and more, the next step was the hardware. Memtest shows lots of errors on tests 5 and 8, nothing on the others. I happens with all modules, alone or together. The error shows up when sending either ffffff7f or fffffff7, and getting ffffffff back. I dont play games on this machine very much, except for tying out simcity4 for awhile. But I do alot of graphics work and 3D rendering.

A kind soul suggested checking out the motherboard capacitors and sent a picture of what to look for. Sure enough one of them was bulging at the top, like in the picture. But no leakage. The offending part (if this IS the whole problem) is black with a gold stripe.

The bad part is listed as EC19. Anyone know what this one is used for? Could this one part be the problem? Of course the board is already quite old by todays standards... around 5 years I think.

    Thansks

If one cap has swelled up, I guarantee there's more than 1 bad cap, even if only one is showing signs... I would replace all your caps 680uF and up. This will guarantee that you get all the bad ones.

How messy/delicate of a job is it to do? Im pretty handy with various types of repair work large and small (no electronic boards tho), but it might be worth it to send it out for repair so I am certain it would be done correctly. I fear I might break something fragile. Also, there is always that little voice that tells me something else might be contributing to the problem. Probably not, but that voice tends to nag alot 8)

        Re: Abit VT6X4 problems

My VTX64 failed recently. Even with bulged caps it had been reliable for years. Symptoms were a very long wait with constant resets before the system would POST. I replaced all the 1000uf 10V caps with Nichicons (DigiKey part 493-1747-ND). Soldering and desoldering were a chore due to tight lead-hold clearance and the thickness of the motherboard. Upon reassembly the system POSTed and booted immediately. Victory!

        Dale.

had one in a surface grinder last week.
recapped it and got rid of glitches the operator had been living with for several years.
the breaking point to spend the money on it came when it started moving without command and slammed the hard stops.

            USB problems?
            by Hondaman
Recently I discovered my SSD died (OCZ/Toshiba 240 GB). It was in a USB enclosure, attached to the Linksys WRT-AC1200 router. Since then I removed the USB enclosure and attached it to my Win7 PC (AMD 8150 CPU, 970 chipset, 64 GB RAM). I also gathered one or two other USB enclosures to figure out what is going on.

(I suspect that I lost quite a few MP3 and FLAC files I recently ripped from my audio CDs, I think I lost very little un-replaceable stuff.)

I think it is IMPOSSIBLE for Win7 to have any problems with a USB enclosure as long as Win7 knows how to speak to the...

Lenovo 11e problems (any sata hdds are not recognized, sleep battery drain)
            by clabr
Need help to solve some problems with this laptop.

After working in bed with it one night and heating up too much (probably the cause of this problems) the sata HDD OS windows froze
After restart the original Sata HDD was not recognized anymore (but works fine in other laptops or PCs)

Tried connecting other good Sata 2.5 HDDs but not one is working in this laptop anymore (not the original nor others)

Before this had happened I observed some other problems:
When I tried replacing original mecanical HDD with a SSD HDD could not get them...

Recap motherboards :: Abit KG7-LITE and Soltek SL-75FRN2-L
            by Foetuss
            Hi all

Hope this is in the correct place.

I'm planning on recapping both motherboards. I actually already ordered recplament caps for them, where I will be changing out most for poly's.
Could use some double checking to see if I'm not doing something stupid .

Pictures of the boards are attached.
What I will be replacing with what : (planned)

            Soltek Golden ::
