    Abit VP6 problem

I just discovered this forum--too late for the class action. I am a video editor. My former editing system used the VP6 with two 1GHz PIIIs. Nice system until the random on/off and blue screen problems. Finally the PSU burned out. No burns on the MB. I replaced the PSU with an Antec 550W - no post on the board. There are no bulging caps on that board, but sounds like a bad cap problem from reading this forum. I recently purchased a used VP6 on ebay, hoping to resurrect my old system. I got post and boot to Windows. Then, the machine powered down. Power up fails unless I wait a while, but if it powers up all the way it always powers down abruptly within 1/2 hour. This used board has one visible bulging cap up near the top. So--bad cap problem? Worth repair?
    Thanks all.

Sounds like caps to me. Worth repairing? That depends on how much you need/want it. It would be worth it to some, but not to others. VP6's have a very high resurrection rate.

VP6 should always be worth it!

        To pvideo:

I have the same board, and the cap that next to the AGP exploded suddenly.
I 'm in the process of recapping, but I 'm not sure whether one of the cap connection is correct. I posted it in october, but no one seems to have the definite answer.

Can you take a look at the capacitor connection(see above link)?

        Thanks!

I have a couple junk VP6's, I'll try to remember to look at that for you. I do believe they are interconnected though.

            Re: Abit VP6 problem

Thanks for the quick responses. The cap on one of my boards is the one next to the magnet coil on the upper left of the photo--not like yours next to the AGP. If it sounds like at least the second board has cap problems, it would be worth it to fix. Question to the administrator: can I send them both in and at least salvage one, presuming at least one has bad caps? If they both suffer from bad caps, I could fix them both.
            Thanks,

In the last ~3-4 months I have been having some issues.
                  1. Problem: It started with random picture disappearing (sound still worked).
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait a few seconds before turning it on again.
                  2. Problem: Then it got worse and the TV started to shut down and when turning on the no picture just sound.
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait about 10-20 seconds and turn it on again to solve.
                  3. Problem: TV shuts down

The laptop was turned off because the MOSFET was not transmitting voltage. After checking it turned out that the gate pin on the MOSFET was the problem, because it was producing an inappropriate voltage. and it was discovered that the problem was with the Think engine, so I decided to reprint each pin, and finally the mosfet could work properly. However, there is another problem, even though the voltage has been supplied to the laptop, it still won't turn on, there isn't even an LED indicator. After double...

                  Lenovo T580 - LCD Panel problem - error 0288
                  by perzyk23
                  Good morning,
I have a problem with Lenovo T580, which after error code 0288 suggests a problem with the display. I checked the display and it works on another laptop. I replaced the display cable with a new one. I programmed another BIOS (downloaded from this forum) and I still have the problem of a dead display - there is an image via HDMI, and the system does not detect the built-in LCD at all. The problem appears to be hardware. What can I check to confirm or disprove this? I found many threads on the Internet related to this problem 0288, but without specific solutions. Please advise....

                  Dell 15R-5521 keyboard problem (KBC?)
                  by SDNarcia
Hello, I have a Dell 15R-5521, with the problem that the Ctrl, Alt, Shitf and Num Lock keys do not work, I tested the keyboard with a keyboard tester and it is functional, I also got another new keyboard and the computer has the same problem with the same keys. Check continuity between the ZIF connector from the keyboard to the KBC and all pins are correct. I cleaned the ZIF connector and the KBC and I still have the same problem. I reinstalled windows just in case, and it didn't work. I updated the BIOS to the latest version A16 and there were no changes.

                  As additional information,...
