Re: My recapped VP6 is acting weird.
Those CPU coolers I mentioned from computergate are $7.95 each or $7.75 each for two or more. They have to be better than the stock Intel heatsinks with the green clips. And I agree, the VIA monitor abnormal voltage warning seems irrelevant and/or wrong.

Re: My recapped VP6 is acting weird.
Let us know if you find some different heat sinks with fans that fit the P3. The intel heatsink clips that came with the CPUs are really flimsy and I broke one--can't seem to find any replacements, so have made do.

Re: My recapped VP6 is acting weird.
I have a recapped VP6 with the same "2.5v is too high!!!" using an Antec 500W SamrtPower 2.0. The unit runs fine, no squeals, although the CPU's run hot. Is this VIA monitor alert something I should be concerned about?

Abit VP6 Up and Running!
I want to thank Topcat, BadCaps Adminstrator, for resurrecting my VP6 MB. It couldn't get through boot when I sent it, and now it works flawlessly. Fine work, sir, and thank you for the reasonable, professional service. You may hear from me again, if I decide to resurrect my other board.

Re: Abit VP6 problem
Thanks for the quick responses. The cap on one of my boards is the one next to the magnet coil on the upper left of the photo--not like yours next to the AGP. If it sounds like at least the second board has cap problems, it would be worth it to fix. Question to the administrator: can I send them both in and at least salvage one, presuming at least one has bad caps? If they both suffer from bad caps, I could fix them both.
Thanks,

Abit VP6 problem
I just discovered this forum--too late for the class action. I am a video editor. My former editing system used the VP6 with two 1GHz PIIIs. Nice system until the random on/off and blue screen problems. Finally the PSU burned out. No burns on the MB. I replaced the PSU with an Antec 550W - no post on the board. There are no bulging caps on that board, but sounds like a bad cap problem from reading this forum. I recently purchased a used VP6 on ebay, hoping to resurrect my old system. I got post and boot to Windows. Then, the machine powered down. Power up fails unless I wait a while, but if it...
