      Re: Cleaning Motherboards

Having read that some people use water to clean boards is doubtful. on the other hand i have reclaimed old computers from a waste disposal unit that have been standing in the rain for days on end and after i have stripped them and let the parts dry for a couple of days they fire up as if they had never been wet in the first place. that is presuming they were only dumped due to their age and not due to parts failure. if you use water make sure it is either rain or distilled water.

i have been using water a long time to clean nasty electronics.
15 years ago i got the nastiest nicotene/tar spooged icom ic-2410h radio i had ever seen.every part except the speaker and lcd went in the sink.this thing looked like it had been dipped in sludge from an engine.
a cleanup and a set of white led's in the display got me a rig that still sold for $400 used at the time for a grand total of $30.i still have it.its the repeater at my shop.

Speaking of Freon (you mean R12 I guess). I was looking in an old electronics book where the guy was freezing a component with freeze spray.

I was curious what type of refrigerant and almost cutoff when the picture was cropped it read Refrigerant 12 (R12) . The ozone depleting CFC in an easy to release can.

It's funny to look back and see stuff like that. Newer freeze sprays that I have use R134a. But I'm sure you mean't dipping them in a vat of liquid refrigerant.

For cleaning grimy boards and gummy messes I use Goo gone to break up all the grime. Then wash off the residue will quick evaporating 91% rubbing alcohol.

Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

freon tf was a very good solvent.
not to be confused with freon 12,22,ect.
i still remember a local office supply place that had 20 cases of duster spray they could not get the nozzles for.sold them to me at $1 a case to get rid of them.
            it was tripple filtered r12.
side can tap made it easy to put it in auto a/c units.

LG OLED C1 Pixel Cleaning Made Picture Worse
              by rumi409
               Hi,

I'm trying to resurrect a LG OLED C1 TV that has some panel banding. I used the TCON error bypass to get a picture. I was able to update the firmware as well. But when I performed a pixel cleaning to try to get the banding out, it made the image significantly worse. I tried to undo the effects of the pixel cleaning by performing a factory reset and IN_Stop, but that didn't work. Any way to reset pixel cleaning data?...

Replacing electrolytic caps by solid caps on old motherboards
              by madscientist750
I do have several old pc motherboards which i recapped 10 year ago and some of those caps are bulged now.
I would like to upgrade them using solid capacitors. I do use them for testing and helping some alternative operating systems.
I would like to ask if such an upgrade can be done, what should i have in mind when replacing electrolytic by solid caps and if such thing exist, if there are caps list for old motherboards. I would have to figure out what caps needs each motherboard and then prepare a list to try to ask for them on some electronics stores.

              Macbook Dust-Gate Preventive Cleaning
              by howardc64
Just did this on my 2021 13" MBP M1. Dust-Gate design flaw still present. Depending on cleanliness of the operation environment (often eating while using MB is probably the worst). Periodic cleaning is probably warranted.

Note this is quite challenging effort. One misstep will damage the LCD flex and render it useless. So take it to someone more experienced if uncertain.

are there any resources that talk about cleaning keyboards thoroughly, by that i mean removing keycaps and cleaning.
i am worried about breaking those keycaps or the plastic retainer clip.

Need help cleaning ME region on Zbook 17 G1 bios dump
              by loopster
              Hello guys,

could I please get some help cleaning the ME region of the attached Zbook 17 G1 bios dump (CH341a, neoprogrammer, chip-desoldered, dumped twice, identical checksum)?

Symptoms, delayed BIOS post (ca. 45 secs.) keyboard not working, touchpad not working, booting linux live, console says "Management engine not configured".
I tried following the ME firmware cleaning guide, but whatever Flash Image Tool version I try, I get the same error:

Error 10: Failed to open with processed commands.
              Unable to open file: C:\Users\Elitebook...
