    Two dead MSI K7T266 v1.0 (MS-6380LE)

    Got two of these boards:
    1. Had 5 4700uF Lelon caps bulged and cracked. Replaced them but it does not work. VCore voltage is correct, 2.5V for chipset and DDR is present. BIOS is flashed (with the latest version), can't find any PCB damage. Everything heats up but nothing, no beeps, no POST codes. There are some Tayeh 1500uF and 1000uF caps but they're not bulged - even picked random ones and removed to test ESR - and they're OK.

    2. This one has Nippon caps, no Lelons. The CPU starts, it even beeps with no memory. But when a memory is inserted, it stops at POST code D3.

The Northbridge could have got hosed on #1. Replace all the Tayeh around the CPU, VRM and Northbridge for a start - Tayeh are known to fail silently. Check the backup battery.

Check/replace the caps near the Northbridge and DIMM slots on #2. Check the backup battery.

PS5 dead no beeps, no lights
      by SuperAman
Got a PS5 with no power. I can read some voltages on the back side of the board with PS connected. I do believe I have 12v coming in and I have found 3.3v, 5v on the board. I do have 12V on + terminal of all the electrolytic caps pictured. I believe I have a short on the vcore / apu supply? All the APU 1V small coils all 6 on both sides of the board are reading around 0.6 ohms on both terminals. I believe console may be dead due to a shorted usb port which I was able to unbend the pins. Do I have a shorted mosfet or possibly bad ceramic small cap or a dead apu? The usb ports are connected directly...

Dead Dell Inspiron 14r N4010 (Used to beeps 3 times but no longer do)
      by tuankietkiet
When plugged in (no battery installed), the battery light on the motherboard lights up and then turn off. When powering on, the same and light and the power button also light up in a white color but no output on the display. It stayed like that for a few seconds before shutting down. I also seem to ruined a connector that connects to the WLAN, 2 USB and audio board, the same board also have a melted 2062A IC. I will post pictures in the reply section

HP Z820 Workstation 4 beeps (sometimes)
      by retrorepair2
I've got an issue with my Z820 that I'm having trouble working out the root cause of.

More often than not it'll turn onand fans will blast for a moment before stopping and I'll get 4 beeps that will repeat forever (at least the power light will keep flashing).

What I can't understand is sometimes it'll just work and I can use it all day but other times it'll boot then reboot then reboot and 4 beeps for the rest of the day. Sometimes it'll work fine from cold for hours, sometimes it'll do the 4 beeps from cold.

Another oddity is the fans. Before the 4 beeps...

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
      by double_DD
      Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...
