    p2b-ds fan headers not working

I just bought a p2b-ds and everything works great except none of the onboard fan headers seem to be working. With none of the 3 working at all, I would figure it is some kind of setup or conflict issue, but I'm not sure. The cpu fans work hooked to psu.

I have a couple more strange questions on the same board. It came with 2 procs withe the following specs- 400/512/100. The 512k cache would lead me to believe they are Katmai, but I can only find reference to 450mhz and up on PIII.

Also, I have scsi issues. I have 2 drives Seagate Barracuda ST3xxxxW series drives that are SE and have self termination jumpers. One drive just beeps and does not spin up, so I assume it is dead, but the scsi adapter recognises the drive. The second will spin up but the green hd light stays on and the adapter will not recognise it. I have tried both drives with standard cable and cable with active term. I'm not that familiar with scsi, but do have them set up according to the manual(adapter termed, last drive termed, etc.) I have no idea what the other settings are for. I have tried them both on the p2b-ds on board adapter(Adaptec 7xxxx I think) and an Adaptec 2940UW pci card.

    Any info would be great!

Re: p2b-ds fan headers not working

All fan headers eventually lead back to the same place (I believe) so if one fan header saw too much current all of them could have effectively been killed.

On Asus boards, there is often a transistor next to one of the headers that controls all of them. It's probably bad.

I'll look for the transistor. Not really important, as I can just get power from ps connector, but I would still like to fix it.

          Should be in TO-252 package.

and if id/term/lvd-se jumpers are right the second drive is likely bad too.

That was my guess on the drives. Just wanted to make sure. Thanks. I'll buy some new ones.

                I'm a moron, kinda.

I assumed the fans were completly fine, since I could plug them in to an adapter and plug them into the ps and they would spin. So in poking around with my meter, I decided to check fan headers for voltage. +12v! Dammit! For some reason, the fans would not work with the tach lead plugged into the board, but would work on 12v without the tach lead. If I had just been the typical parts swapper and tried new fans to begin with, I would have been fine. The other fans work fine on the headers.

BTW. The 12V presence check is not enough as on some boards, the GND is switched on/off instead of 12V.
