    Kg7-raid

While shuffling room contents during our home improvement project, I glanced at the mobo on my daughter's system. It's an ABit KG7-RAID that has run pretty much nonstop since summer 2002. I've been a bit lax on maintenance, I haven't been inside it in about five months. Six bad Nichicons; 3 leaking, 3 bulging. Can't tell what series. I'll attempt exact ID and pics next week (hopefully). This board is covered in Rubycon and Nichicon caps. It's in an aluminum Chenming (same design as the one I've posted in FS/FT forum) with excellent negative airflow. I'm just about to be sick. Now just waiting for the Panasonics on my QDI to fail...

    Regards,
    Jim

That is very frustrating to see, and I think for Abit too because they prolly built this board after all the flak the got over using poor quality caps and they used good quality and they fail anyway...

    Impatiently awaiting the pictures ;-)

thats interesting because dell referred to a period quite a few months after your board was built.

"The problem is isolated to a specific capacitor supplier which was used in system boards manufactured from April 2003 to March 2004. The defective Nichon capacitors were placed on two manufacturers' GX270 motherboards between 04/01/2003 to 03/20/2004.
i think that is the first HM series fail pic i have seen, the others were HN series.

Yes. I'm sending it in to TC tomorrow or the next day. It's "mission critical" (daughter's PC) and I only attempt soldering on boards that don't really matter until my solder skills are up to speed.

I have CPGA Duron 950. Is this rare?

Yep. Max supported CPU w/latest BIOS is a 2200+, a 1.3 Duron does what she needs it to do and then some.

That sucks! Because I have an Asus A7N266-VM/AA motherboard with Nichicon HM (M) caps. That motherboard has been stable from the day that I purchased it. The caps are still fine.

                    Hi all

Hope this is in the correct place.

I'm planning on recapping both motherboards. I actually already ordered recplament caps for them, where I will be changing out most for poly's.
Could use some double checking to see if I'm not doing something stupid .

Pictures of the boards are attached.

                    Abit BE6-II motherboard
                    by ziplock
                    Greetings,

I have an Abit BE6-II motherboard that posts sporadically with the bare minimum components installed - CPU, RAM, PSU, and a Keyboard. I know it posts when the speaker beeps. Re-seating the components has no effect.

I thought the sporadic posting might be capacitor related. Upon inspection, non of the caps are bulged or leaking and they are all original. So, I pulled them ALL. While the ESR is OK, over half of them are leaking current between 1 and 2 mA. The biggest offenders are way out of spec, like a 1500uf / 6.3V measuring 2600uF and many of the 820uF caps...

                    Abit ST6-Raid repair
                    by tbalint3
                    Hello All,

I am trying to repair an old Abit ST6-R motherboard.

                    The symptoms are the following:
I got it in a non-working state. I was told that it sometimes turned on, but many times just the CPU fan was spinning and no other signs of life, the board didn't POST, and now it doesn't POST at all.

It was full of bulged electrolytic capacitors, so I replaced all of them with new Low-ESR ones, but it didn't solve the problem.
If I install a CPU in the S370 socket, only the fans are spinning and no POST. There are no beep codes even if the RAM DIMMs...

                    Hello,
previously I gave up on this MoBo, but here we are again. For starters I'll give a link to previous thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=95433
                    What has changed:
                    - I still don't have a PCI GPU, but I have a PCI dignostic board
                    - I measured the temperature and drain resistances of these hot MOSFETs:
(right) 3.3V line: 100Ohms, gets up to ~80C,
(left) 1.5V line: 430Ohms, gets up to ~65C
                    What PC diagnostic says:
-without GPU: goes through all post codes, keyboard is responsive, after hitting F1 key post codes go all...
