Re: NO more Abit motherboards...
I know. I took a chance on the latest ones I bought because of the decent caps and the price. I kept one for myself. About every other one had problems with onboard audio, which I loathe anyway. Other than that, very stable. I wouldn't even attempt an overclock on a QDI board.

Re: NO more Abit motherboards...
Before the deal with IBM, Lenovo was the largest mobo manufacturer in China. They made a lot of OEM stuff for the Asian continent. One brand I know they export here is QDI. Before the IBM deal and real estate acquisitions, the parent company I *think* was called Legend Holdings, or Legend Computer Corp. God knows the number of tentacles, where they extend, and what they're called these days. I have been unable to link Lenovo/Legend/whatever with the Elitegroup parent company, and their quality seems to be much better. I bought a dozen QDI socket...

Re: Water in Nintendo DS
My daughter's cellphone has gone through the washer TWICE and been completely resurrected using the method Rainbow described. My wife just thought of it. The second time she took the thing apart and put in the oven @ 150F for awhile. Both times it took about an additional 48 hours for the phone to come back to life. I would've used my aerosol contact cleaner to douse everything and let it air dry for a week (battery was of course excepted from the above tortures). Nokias are tough I guess.

Re: Abit AB-ZM6
There's some great advice. I'd like to get a few boxes of DOA boards to hone my soldering skills.

Re: new Sparkle cap brand
I didn't know the difference either until I started buying Surefire and Streamlight flashlights. I picked up an Arc last year to carry in my pocket. Big difference in brightness.Last edited by jarobi; 01-18-2006, 07:22 PM.

new Sparkle cap brand
I was at the local shop today shooting the breeze when UPS showed up to drop off a dozen Sparkle ATX-300GT (lowest model 'cept for the Power Q). We popped one open, ALL OST caps, including the beer cans. An Arclight shone through the grills of a couple others showed us the same thing. I guess the folks at FSP are rolling the dice with OST on this run instead of Fuhjyyu.

Nichicon 105 deg 3300 mF 6.3v HM(M) H0135
Sparkle PSU FSP300-60GT mfg. in 1999; Matushita beer cans. All others are perfectly flat- topped, no bulging/leaking bungs Fuhjyyu; PSU is on its third fan and has run pretty much since the day I got it....Last edited by jarobi; 01-17-2006, 01:38 PM.

Kg7-raid
While shuffling room contents during our home improvement project, I glanced at the mobo on my daughter's system. It's an ABit KG7-RAID that has run pretty much nonstop since summer 2002. I've been a bit lax on maintenance, I haven't been inside it in about five months. Six bad Nichicons; 3 leaking, 3 bulging. Can't tell what series. I'll attempt exact ID and pics next week (hopefully). This board is covered in Rubycon and Nichicon caps. It's in an aluminum Chenming (same design as the one I've posted in FS/FT forum) with excellent negative airflow. I'm just about to be sick. Now just waiting...

et tu, PC Power & Cooling?
Hello,
I popped the cover off this PC P&C Silencer 360 ATX, purchased in December 2004. The beer can is a Hitachi HP3, all others are OST.

Re: Post your bad experiences with Antec power supplies here!
I seldom use Antec PSUs, so I reckon I can't relate any horror stories. I had one fail (a 300 watt, forget the model) in a friend's PC in 2001. My dealings with Antec's support were pleasant. I usually use FSP/Sparkle or PC Power&Cooling units.

Re: Fic P4pb-400
I shipped it to Spaced already. I'll probably have another one available when I get the second system. I'll PM you if I do. Chris1992, I have personal preferences for everything, especially motherboards. I've experienced high failure rates and general nonsense with FIC boards, so I don't care for them.

Re: Fic P4pb-400
Thanks, but that was the plan. I pulled the FIC, snapped a photo of the caps, and replaced it with a Tyan board. In a previous post I offered it to anyone who wanted to pay the shipping. Out of personal preference I refuse to spend very much time (e.g. recapping) on anything manufactured by FIC.
Regards,
Jim

Re: Fic P4pb-400
I really have a bad taste in my mouth as regards anything FIC. If it was an ABit or Epox I wouldn't think twice. Spaced, if you're serious PM me, we'll hash it out that way. Shipping... I dunno, six or seven bucks?

P.S. I'm getting the twin to this setup in the next couple of weeks. I'm going to check the caps well and replace the PowMax with a FSP 350 watt. She told me it's running fine. It will sit for weeks at a time, powered off, between uses. The pictured board was in use 6-8 hours per day.Last edited by jarobi; 12-15-2005, 08:24 PM.

Fic P4pb-400
This puppy had two strikes against it from the get-go IMO (see: First International Computer) and the kicker was the GSC caps. Symptoms were extremely slow boot & the occasional freeze. Manufacture date was April 2002. FIC didn't get the memo, and continues to be a bottom feeder as far as I'm concerned. Every capacitor on the board was a GSC. These caps were fed by a seven-dollar PowMax "400" watt PSU. I will offer the board to anyone who wants it for the price of shipping.
Regards,
Jim...

HP 533 w/Trigem
I've run across a couple of these, the Trigems are always horrible. The bad caps are TMS; note the Rubycons sitting pretty beside the leakers in the photos.
I read this thread:

According to HP, the "Echo" is an Asus-built board. The two Trigem-equipped models I've seen were purchased at Wal-Mart.https://I've run across a couple of ...<br /> I read...
