They may be the only years they were sold with bad formula... but even the new PCs are effected by poor ventilation cooking good caps to death. The problem is, you usually don't see it manifest itself until 2 years after the PC was purchased, whereas the caps with the bad formula were crapping out in the first year.
    Ludicrous gibs!

        yeah its one year.

standard full-size tower pcs are, in general, quite reliable. hp and dell and other oems do like the occasional crap cap or under-powered psu, along with not putting a fan in the back, but once those easy fixes are performed a standard tower pc will last a long time (if cleaned regularly, etc)...the only truly unreliable parts include hard drives and the over-stressed mediocre psus oems like to use.

I still see new PCs (*cough* Compaq *cough*) using bad formula junk TK caps and even with good ventilationa and a case fan, they fail fairly early (2-3 yrs).
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

the industry wants us to treat them like dixie cups.
the shop by price alone attitude does not help either.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
                  by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

                  by master3112
I would like to share my experience about charging issues with Dell power supplies with the tech community. I am working on a Dell Inspiron 5590, Mainboard 18778-1 with charging problems. The device can be switched on and works so far, only the message appears at startup:

Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and Type cannot be determined. The battery may not change. The System will adjust the performace to match the power available.

The power supply unit is not recognized in the Bios and the charging process is set to "idle". I use original Dell battery, type...

Dell Latitude 5420 does not start (no post) need help to find the reason why
                  by F R 2568
                  Hello all,

this is my first post, so if I make mistakes please do not hesitate to point them out, thank you in advance.

I got a Dell Latitude 5420 (Service Tag: 7RFM6D3, Motherboard: GDF40 LA-491P Rev.: 2.0 (A01)) which does not start and I want to repair it. These are the symptoms:

If the laptop is only connected to the AC adapter (battery removed):

When I press the power button, the keyboard backlight and the display backlight are turning on. Caps key light is lightning, but key does not respond to pressing it.

                  The power/battery...

                  Looking for Dell Latitude 5520 / 5530 / 5540 RJ45 network connector replacement
                  by diamon
I have a Dell Latitude 5530 with a damaged RJ45 network connector. See the attached pictures.

Have already searched on Farnell / Aliexpress / Ebay and had contact with several suppliers on Aliexpress and Ebay, but they cannot deliver this connector.
Is there someone inside the EU, who has these connector(s) or perhaps defective motherboard(s) for these laptop models I have mentioned in the topic title.

                  Pictures of these boards:

Dell G5 SE 5505 - "Invalid memory installed" after BIOS update.
                  by lalle-
                  Hello!

I have a problem with a Dell G5 SE 5505 laptop that I hope someone can give me a few pointers on.
[OK, it's not really a laptop, I'm running the motherboard on my desktop with only cooling, RAM and an M2 drive attached.]
I had some performance issues, so I decided to update my BIOS from 1.7.0 to the latest version, 1.20.0.
The computer restarted and the update dit not want to continue without a battery connected, even though I used dell's method of bypassing this requirement.
I tried updating to a custom BIOS from Reddit user Satori_Nori https://www...
