    Voltage Regulator Question

Hi there not sure if this is the right spot for this question, tried googling the numbers on this regulator came up empty.

The numbers on it are T423 MBFR2010OCT.. It's out of a Dell E173FPS monitor. Diagnosed the board.. it had a dried out filter cap, 2 bad diodes, one small cap 50v10uf that was bad and I checked this regulator while it was in the board and it was shorted.

Took it out of the board and still read shorted. Sort of dead in the water unless I can find this thing or wait til I get another donor board.

    TIA

A picture of the part might help identify it.

        Solder Boy,

This is not a regulator. It has a pair of diode inside configured as printed on the picture outside. I think you should be able to get this (or equiv) from Digikey.

This part is commonly seen in Switching P/S. Do you have any duds kicking around?

        EDIT: Here you are:

Good thing PlainBill asked for a photo. For one, you transversed the letters "R" and "F". And there is no letter "O". Actual part number is: MBRF20100CT. It's available at digikey.com for $1.20

Or free from an old ATX power supply.

              Re: Voltage Regulator Question

Thanks for the help guys! Greatly appreciated! I have about a hundred power supplies kicking around in my shop. I'll probably order a bunch of these for future repairs.

I was speaking to a buddy of mine about it the other day and he agreed the fact the large filter capacitor didn't read anything at all on the ESR meter probably was the culprit that blew everything else up.

I could just swap the board out for another one but I'm determined to fix this one somehow

No reading on the ESR meter if you are referring to the Bob Parker one mean's either the ESR is over 100 ohms or the cap is shorted.
Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

Do you mean open instead of shorted?
