    Acer AL1706b flashing power light

Hello, all. My name is Bruce. I'm new here, but an old hand at electronics. My dad was a T.V./radio/electronics repairman.(BPCB)
I was given this monitor as "payment" for hooking up a neighbors new 19" and I use it as a second monitor. When I first hooked it up, it took about 10 mins to come on, with the power light blinking green. I experimented with turning it off nightly, and it took longer each time to kick in. I then left it on all the time, and covered the front with a towel to block out the light at night.
The other night, we had a major t-storm and the wife turned off all the computers, monitors, etc. Now the monitor will not come on at all, just sits there with the power light blinking green. I was looking around to see if this is even worth trying to fix, and found this site. After much browsing and a search, I found a few threads with similar problems, and tried a few of the suggestions, (powering off at the plug, disconnecting VGA cable with power on) and it's still doing the same thing. I never thought about the possibility of bad caps, but it seems feasible.
Would it be worth trying to fix, or not? Unit is about 4 years old,(Jan 06) but my old crt main monitor is about 10 and still working, although a bit dim.
I'll have to see if I can find my old soldering equipment as well.
    Thanks.

It's definitely worth fixing. You should be able to fix that one for about $10 or less if it is the caps. Take a look inside. The problem you are describing is consistant with badcaps.

Might be the power supply trying to start, and cycling because of a problem.
If it uses an internal power supply, open it up and post pics and caps info.

        Thanks for the info.
I'll take a look inside later, as soon as I figure out how to get the back off.
I can get a new 18.5" Acer X series monitor for around $120, so I might get one, but I still want to keep this one as a secondary anyway. I do a lot of 3D gaming work, so having 2 monitors is almost a must.

Finally got around to taking the monitor apart, and I found at least 6 bulged caps on the power supply. Ugh.
I picked up a 20" Acer at Wallyworld for $128 CDN, so I decided to fix up the other one and give it to my daughter for her computer. I'm using my old crt for a secondary, but next to the P205H, it sucks, but it'll do for now.

Now to find and check my soldering pencil and see if THAT still works......

Most will recommend that you replace them ALL regardless if they are bulged or not. If 6 bulged, it would not be a stretch to think the others are going to die soon.

Most recommend Panasonic, Rubycon, or United Chemicon for replacements.

In Canada, you can check your local electronics store for these brands. If you order from ca.digikey.com, shipping and handling is $8 USD.

Pretty pointless in this case IMHO. The symptoms are classis SMPS cycling, due to either the startup circuit failing or (more often) an overload situation. I'm having difficulty imagining a way that a failed fuse could cause either of those.

                  Hi Everyone

Lately I am experiencing the deja-vu incident on one of the led monitor like this.
                  https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...lashing-on-off

The monitor is HP 27es LED Monitor

The monitor will randomly blackout and display no signal and will recover again.
Sometimes need to power and off again to restore the display but...

Monitor Audio RSW12 - Green light but no audio
                  by MOSSEP
                  Hi

Im hoping someone might be able to give me some idea of what may be wrong with my Monitor Audio RSW12 Sub.

Ive owned it since new in around 2002, so would really like to keep it running if I can, it was the first ‘decent' bit of audio equipment I ever purchased and is a little sentimental.

The issue I had was that it would power up with the red light, but sometimes the green light would not come on and I would get no bass from it. If the green light did come on though, I would get sound out of it.

I have already tried replacing all of the...

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

HP Elitebook 845 G8 dead, only caps lock flashing 7 times. Charging light always on
                  by esqmooo
                  Hello everyone.

This is my development machine. I've been using it since two years and half without any problem except sometimes it wouldn't wake up from sleep.
Lately the issue became more frequent and powering it up would take few seconds to show the POST screen.
Then the computer refuses to power on at all. Now only the caps lock button flashes 7 times then stops. The charging light is always on whenever a power source is connected (battery or charger).
I tried long pressing on the power button, after several seconds it would go off then when the button is released...
