    Another Gateway 24" LCD works - Kinda

    I have a gateway 24" lcd the hd version with all the inputs etc etc, the FPD2585, it works ok untill you go and try to use a higher resolution, I can use the 1680x1050 some times but some times it starts flickering and getting all distorted etc, when i go the the max resolution it just goes all millions of lines and you can't do any thing with it, however i used to be able to do it on this setup.

    At first i thought it was the video card so i bought a new one, installed drivers and still does the same thing, so i bought a different brand and make video card that has dvi and vga it still does it, however if i use component ( of course lower resolution on a dvd player ) it works fine.

    What could be wrong, ? bad cap or main board ? I'm on it right now using 1400 x900 and its fine.

    When its at the 1680-1050 resoltion its ok some times but when you click the touch buttons you can see it get all weird. If pictures & or movie help i can post.


    Maybe ill just put it on ebay for 99$

      What's the native resolution of the display?

      Native resolution is what you want to use all the time. Going beyond the native resolution utilizes a scaler which downconverts the higher resolution to your display which always equals poorer picture quality.

      If you're not selecting a resolution out of the monitors display range (which would cause all type of weird things on the display) it sounds like a problem on the main board with the video scaler.

          The monitor will do alot of resolutions, the max resolution used to work just fine, then it started doing this, so i changed the resolution to a lower one, then i started again, the max resolution it can handle is 1600x1200 16:10 in its day it was a 1400$ because it has the tilt feature and all the extra inputs such as dvi vga composite svideo and 2 component.

          I know im not hurting it or putting it into a resolution it won't handle / accept. I think its the video bard or something, is it fixable or ?

          The monitor is in mint shape i could sell for parts, the back light is perfect its a bright lcd monitor, the lcd has no dead pixles. and it powers up and psu work, but not sure if i want to fix it, im not putting lots of money into it thats for sure.

              Locate a 8 pin IC that says 24xxx and post back. Might swap it for blank EEPROM and let the firmware refill it with proper settings might help.

              I had to do this to one generic monitor that corrupted a eeprom IC (24xxx) that it has trouble starting up.

                  HOw big is that chip ? Is it soldered to the board ?

                      tiny. No bigger than your pinkie nail. Usually SMD on the mainboard. It is near a one of chipsets. It will say like 24C08, 24C16 so on. For example and I thought monitor is already disassembled?

                          Eeproms are smaller than the main ICs most of the time they have a Revision sticker with the firmware version on them. It will be on the main video board.

                              I thought it might be one that was in a socket simular to bios eprom's, Where can i find a replacement ? Should this cure the problem ?

                              I know all about smd and soldering, have many soldering irons on my bench and i work with smd parts all day I build amplifiers and stuff.

                                      This could be a weak power supply. Higher res drawing more power and supply can't keep up.

                                      Have you owned the monitor since new?
                                      Was it always this way?
                                      How long have you had the problem?
                                      Was there an "event" that started this? (power surge, lightning, system failure, etc.)

                                      Sometimes wrong refresh rate can screw these up. Trying to run 72Hz vs. 60Hz.

                                          Got a case of something new weird at work. There is an old 2nd gen Intel i3 in an old “Pizza box” shell that has a small form factor power supply. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures and model number off it.

                                          Hi everyone,

                                          I'm working on a MacBook Air 2020 (A2337, board 820-02016) and running into a strange USB-C issue. I've gone through quite a bit of testing and part replacement, but I'm stuck — hoping someone here can shed some light.

                                          🛠 Original Issue
                                          The machine initially wouldn't negotiate 20V over USB-C — stuck at 5V.
                                          Diagnosis showed PP1V5_UPC0_LDO_CORE shorted to ground.

                                          I replaced U3100 (UF400) using a donor board (A2179), and the machine powers on fine now.

                                          ⚠️ New Problem: One USB-C Port Only Works in One Orientation...

                                          Hello mates,

                                          I bought this subwoofer a few days ago used and blind and it works erratically, as far as I could see, it has been tampered with, the speaker is not the original one and of 8 Ohm when it should be of 4, and there are some welds like reworked by the boards.

                                          It doesn't have much power (expected more from it) and it distorts if you increase the volume over the middle, maybe it's because of the high impedance of the speaker. The problem is that it has sound when it wants, the led panels all work correctly, you can hear the power relay on power on, but right now...

                                          a2141 820-01700 internal display not working / external works

                                          Hey ya'll this is my first post on here. I recently aquired a used/broken 2019 mbp 16 a2141 with the 820-01700 board. Seller told me that the laptop needed a new lcd. However upon doing some troubleshooting i found out the lcd is fine.

                                          Laptop boots like a normal, plays chime, touchbar lights up however there is no image on the internal lcd. If i connect and external monitor while its already on, nothing happens and no image is displayed on external. However if i restart or boot the machine while its plugged in, the external then works and a backlight is now visible on the laptop....

                                          Hi, so i guess I´ll have to make a new topic here, as i browsed through hundreds of other threads but couldn't find a solution to my problem yet.

                                          I got a EIZO CX270 from a friend. He said it doesn't work anymore and wont display any signal or take any OSD inputs. Well, as an aspiring photographer I couldn't say no, could I? Thought it was an easy game, replace a bad cap and have a working monitor. But nooope, it wasn't supposed to be this easy.

                                          So let me start with the problem description. I'll try my best not to skip anything so this might get rather long.
