Hey ya'll this is my first post on here. I recently aquired a used/broken 2019 mbp 16 a2141 with the 820-01700 board. Seller told me that the laptop needed a new lcd. However upon doing some troubleshooting i found out the lcd is fine.
Laptop boots like a normal, plays chime, touchbar lights up however there is no image on the internal lcd. If i connect and external monitor while its already on, nothing happens and no image is displayed on external. However if i restart or boot the machine while its plugged in, the external then works and a backlight is now visible on the laptop. Still nothing displayed, but backlight now works. Under display setting only the external monitor is recognized and not the internal.
I removed the lcd and tested it on another machine and it works fine so the issue is with the board.
After inspecting the board there are no major areas of concern. Display connectors look fine with no obvious shorts or burns. Only area that stood out to me is that it appears someone might have changed the mux chip (U9850) as that area looked a little discolored like it was re-heated or replaced.
Before i go ahead and replace it with another u9850 chip are there any other pointers/tests i should perform while the boards out?
I already tried prams smc reset and revive via another mac prior to disassembly with the same outcome.
