      Ha, so I've had the color fix for the last few days and all of a sudden today it's back to the missing colors/etc.

      It just happened while I was working -- all of a sudden the colors disappeared and I got part of the blueish hue as I showed in Page 1 of this post. Still over VGA only; no DVI.

      Waiting for the other LCD to show up.

      If it turns out it has a good screen I will let you guys know.

      What could be wrong with this one I have now - any thoughts?

        Hey, Viewsonic has lots of issue with DVI EDID problem. Did you try to swap a live DVI connection to test or you tried from boot up?

          I tried both and no luck. Along with the color problem I really think this monitor has a motherboard issue (I found lots of oxidation/etc. on the motherboard as per above posts).

            I would go with kc8adu advice, it makes sense looking at the condition your board was in before you cleaned it

                So I got the new (dead) LCD which turns out has a good motherboard. Swapped the motherboard into the one that I had with the color and DVI problem and it's working for now...let's see for how long!

                This new one has a screen that's in a pretty good shape but I don't know if it's useful at all. Maybe it has an inverter problem? The guys on eBay said it has a 'bad screen', but it's no physical damage/etc. to the monitor.

                  Congratulations on your now working unit.
                  As for the dead one, normally they have either a bad PS or a bad inverter. Post a pic of the inverter of the dead one and maybe I can send you one from my dead units.

                      Check those SMD fuses on the inverter board. Should be labelled F1, F2, etc..

                        They are thru-hole, like the green one on top of the upper Taicon Cap. Check them and see if they are open or not. And the inverter is not like the ones I have. The Lamp connectors are not the same. Yours have one narrow and one wide. Mine have three equal sized connectors on each side.

                          Check F1 and F2 labelled "FP" on the top. They are on the left and right side of the power connector.





                          These should be 2A fuses.

                            Interesting -- mine are not like that at all - there's one F1 on one side and no F2 on the other side of the inverter power connector.

                            If they are blown is the component just burned out or can they be bad regardless?

                              I've seen some open without being burned. And I agree that your board is not like the one in the pictures. Check to see if under the lower TAICON there's a fuse (I've seen all of the inverters for the VP102/211 with two fuses, but then again, anything goes ....)

                                Nope no fuses under the TAICON caps (there's two of these TAICON caps -- one on each side of the power connector).

                                    Nop. Lucky13's, mine & yours are completely different inverters (one uses 330uf caps and the other ones use 220uf caps but are arranged differently). Sorry.

                                      Can you summarize what is and what is not happening on this "dead" one?

                                      Is the power LED on?

                                      You have a meter to monitor the voltage on the fuse (try both ends). I suspect when the green light comes on (power), there should be a voltage here at the inverter board.
