Any suggestion on how to ohm out ~100 ft distance? The leads are at most 2 ft and that's generous :-)
Thank you!...

Re: Viewsonic monitor - debug strategy and help
Also note the model of the inverter -- L20C-3, highlighted above...
Is that the same one you have eguevarae?
Thanks!

Re: Viewsonic monitor - debug strategy and help
Nope no fuses under the TAICON caps (there's two of these TAICON caps -- one on each side of the power connector).
See below for detail and the location of F1:...

Re: Viewsonic monitor - debug strategy and help
Interesting -- mine are not like that at all - there's one F1 on one side and no F2 on the other side of the inverter power connector.
If they are blown is the component just burned out or can they be bad regardless?
Thanks!...

Re: Viewsonic monitor - debug strategy and help
So I got the new (dead) LCD which turns out has a good motherboard. Swapped the motherboard into the one that I had with the color and DVI problem and it's working for now...let's see for how long!
This new one has a screen that's in a pretty good shape but I don't know if it's useful at all. Maybe it has an inverter problem? The guys on eBay said it has a 'bad screen', but it's no physical damage/etc. to the monitor.

Re: Viewsonic monitor - debug strategy and help
I tried both and no luck. Along with the color problem I really think this monitor has a motherboard issue (I found lots of oxidation/etc. on the motherboard as per above posts)....

Re: Viewsonic monitor - debug strategy and help
Ha, so I've had the color fix for the last few days and all of a sudden today it's back to the missing colors/etc.
It just happened while I was working -- all of a sudden the colors disappeared and I got part of the blueish hue as I showed in Page 1 of this post. Still over VGA only; no DVI.
Waiting for the other LCD to show up.
If it turns out it has a good screen I will let you guys know.
What could be wrong with this one I have now - any thoughts?
Thanks...

Hi,
Can you please advise which ones those would be? Are there alternate part replacements available?
Thanks!...

Re: Viewsonic monitor - debug strategy and help
So I've cleaned the oxidation off using Flux cleaner and strangely enough the color issue went away. This is on the old motherboard (I'm still waiting for the dead monitor so I can swap out boards).
The DVI connection still doesn't work, and I noticed what looks like oxidation underneath the DVI connector pins - where they solder to the motherboard. I tried cleaning that from the sides since I can't take that connector off (for now) and no go.
Will keep you guys posted.
Thanks for all the...

Re: Viewsonic monitor - debug strategy and help
Interesting; I have purchased a dead Viewsonic monitor to see if I can swap out the motherboards, and in the meantime I took out the old motherboard, flipped it over and this is what I found:
It looks oxidized in quite a few places including on one of the components that looks like a transistor (G-D-S - gate, drain, source?). This is at the top-center, slightly to the right of center of the image. Anyway, what do you guys think?

Re: viewsonic vp201s missing colours
I just ordered a dead VP201B from eBay to see if I can swap some things and get my colors back. I don't know if it's a mainboard or inverter problem; the DVI issue definitely seems to be related to the mainboard.

Re: Viewsonic monitor - debug strategy and help
:-) Ok, will do.
Tonight I'm going to try to swap out the boards between the two screens as per your instructions.
Thanks!

Re: Viewsonic monitor - debug strategy and help
Thanks guys, however the question is - how do I know the 'dead' monitor will have a good mainboard or whatever is wrong with mine? :-). I might have a chance of ending up with two 'dead' monitors!
Thanks!

Re: Viewsonic monitor - debug strategy and help
Ok, so I finally got around to opening up the LCD and taking a few pictures.
First of all, the issues:
(1) no DVI input works on this;
(2) colors missing/blue-ish hue to the color;
Since I have two of these monitors (one of them works great), I have attached two pictures that illustrate issue (2) above.
First, from the good monitor:
Now, the bad - notice the missing colors in the transition areas (almost like we were in a 65K colors instead of...

Re: Viewsonic monitor - debug strategy and help
Yes, I have a DMM and could also do more advanced checking on this if required. We have a scope @ work and I have used it in the past (am a little rusty and of course for now have no idea what to check for ;-).
Thanks!

Re: Viewsonic monitor - debug strategy and help
There were no signs of damage to boards, nor any visual issues with caps. I am going to open the screen again and take the pictures and post them if those would be the logical next steps.
