Ops not going very good it has seen better days

How hard would it be to put a buck converter board in place of the lm7812
Because they also make switch regular that runs a lot cooler and does not require a heat sink unless you run the hell out of it they have voltages from 3.3/5/12 and an adjustable version as well of this type of regular

Other option is to relocate the 7812 to a different heatsink perhaps, but I just noticed something else...probably have to desolder the diode but I noticed it seemed a little leaky... this would cause some heat...

Welp, in went some new caps and the monitor is alive again. Posting this so I have a record when I last changed them...again...

Some Chemicon and Nichicon caps went in this time, and two 470uF 25V caps went in instead of a 1000uF 25V. I think the former might be better as it's more surface area to dissipate heat.

Now...when will be the next time I repair this monitor...
