I just sold a tested screen assembly from a Dell Inspiron 5150 on ebay. This is the whole assembly not just the panel so all the buyer has to do is bolt it on and connect the LVDS cable, wifi, etc. This thing was in immaculate condition. I packed it very securely as with other screens and panels. I didn't make much on the sale since there were others that were very low priced and I paid shipping too so to compete with other sellers.
Buyer receives it and "gently installs it" to a Inspiron 1100 (Service Tag# 9CTBT21) and claims to have a solid white display on boot and then a blotchy white screen apparently when it reaches the desktop (pics supplied by buyer through ebay message). Buyer claims that the purchase was made to remedy a cracked screen. They claim this is the second time they have replaced the screen since owning it from new and are just trying to keep it going before buying a new machine. Buyer claims they had an external display connected and working prior to installing my item so not graphics chip.
I have not seen this issue before but according to searching the net a poorly seated LVDS cable at the motherboard or a damaged socket causing poor seating can cause this. Is there a mismatch between Inspiron 1100 and 5150 that I missed even though they are same series? If an external display works then it is within the screen assembly, as in LVDS cable, inverter, panel etc? Is my panel damaged prior to arrival based on pictures or is it installer error?
Just wanted a rather solid opinion before I answer to refund or not. I accept no returns on tested items because I can't control the install or the installer as compared to if I did the work on my ESD safe bench and the correct tools.
