Hey guys, I've got a 19" Sony Trinitron 420gs monitor. It's an excellent monitor, one I picked up about two months ago at a thrift shop for ten bucks. It's in good shape, nice bright and clear, but it takes a while to warm up, not really sure if it's relevant to the problem I'm having. It's got a manufacture date of 1999, and was made in the USA (Sony Rancho Bernardo plant, which is only like 20 minutes away from my house, kinda cool). The problem is that the top centimeter of the screen is kinda "squiggly", it bulges in, out, in out, then in again. I've attached a picture of the monitor itself, and of how the distortion looks from the top left corner of the screen. It was taken with my phone so sorry about the poor quality! The problem started a few weeks ago, but it was barely noticeable until today. Help anyone?

by momakaNormally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow.
But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though.
I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

by nick3092Hello all. I have a 21" Sony Trinitron CRT monitor I'm hoping to repair. It's technically an SGI monitor, model GDM-5011P. I showed the attached pictures to a couple people who are slightly knowledgeable in monitors and/or electronics in general. And the general consensus is that it's an issue with the deflection board, or less likely the power supply. Most likely the deflection board though, as it looks like an issue with the horizontal sync. I'm hoping that it just needs a recap to fix it. The service manual complete with schematics, block diagrams and parts lists is available to view or...

by FZGHello there, helpful forum people!
I am in the process of fixing an old (ca. 1990) Sony BVM1410PM CRT monitor and need some help. The PSU board of this monitor had failed and I had to replace quite a few capacitors and other parts but now - with my limited knowledge - I ran into a wall.
On the board there is a coil choke that has failed (tested with inductance meter) and I don´t know what to replace it with. According to the device´s service manual the part in question is a "Coil, Choke 525 uH (Sony P/N: 1-459-643-11)".
The original part... -
by wattageHello Badcaps Community,
I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.
The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...-
