EIZO FlexScan SX3031W - vertical lines artifacts

I have an EIZO FlexScan SX3031W lcd monitor which shows vertical lines artifacts (garbled/distortion pixels) around various parts of the displayed image, especially around white areas.

Artifacts show up even when no signal is present, on and to the right of OSD menus.

Opened it and nothing looks broken (no visible capacitors problem, all Nichicon, less than 5 years old).
Reconnected all cables (including t-con? flex cables)
Found that 4 capacitors on the PSU board are running a little warm, but they are rated 105'C.

    Please see attached images.
I've uploaded more photos here: http://www.whatsinside.info/eizo-fle...031w-teardown/
    Video here: http://youtu.be/o2o9cVHDTSQ

Anyone know where can be the problem ?
Found a similar pictured issue here: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=35751

    Thanks!

Ok not seen or worked on anything this big so general suggestions only

Capacitors should be ok the warm ones are next to a heatsink which will probably be heating them.
If you think it is over hot you could try a cooling fan to see if it makes any difference.

Do the artifacts display all the time from switch on to say half an hour.
Are the artifacts always in the same place.
What do you get if you unplug the lvds cable?

Looks like a tcon problem, again you could try cooling/heating to see if it makes any difference.
Very VERY carefully you could remove the tcon clean all the flat cables and reseat them.
You say you reconnected them already did that include the ones to the panel? did you clean them?
Is that component on the tcon with 2 legs and a stub a voltage regulator or a mosfet? Part number?

Was it your monitor - did it get gradually worse

There is an adjustment pot on the power supply - any idea what it adjusts. IF you get no improvement with anything else I would mark carefully where the adjuster is and move it very slightly to see if it it makes any difference - if not return it to its original position.
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

Re: EIZO FlexScan SX3031W - vertical lines artifacts

The 4 capacitors are barely warmer than others which are at ambient temperature.

I would say there are two kind of artifacts:
1- Artifacts that display from switch on permanently:
1.1-they appear as dim vertical lines over the displayed screen elements, a
1.2-they appear as proeminent white lines to the right white areas (dancing/flashing/ringing)
2- Artifacts that appear from switch on but amplify with more power-on time (heating)
2.1-A few vertical lines (2 to 5) at the leftmost of the screen, that are split in 5? vertical segments, composed of random RGB pixels dancing.
Please see them in the linked video, at around 0:11.

I will try to disconnect the LVDS cable and wiggle it while working to see what happens.

I reseated all the 4 wide flex cables at the top of the T-CON, have not cleaned them because they looked very clean. Maybe I'll try rubbing them with an eraser and clean with isopropilic alcohol.
I wonder if they all contain the same set of signals, because if they do, then the problem would manifest only in a specifica area of the screen; but if for example, the first flex contain some signal grounds that are missing from the other cables, and that one is making poor contact, then it would be a possible location of the problem, else not.

That component, identified by D17 on the board, is imprinted: [Fairchild logo] F30, Y0504, SA. From my search it is a Schottky Barrier Rectifier (FYD0504SA)

The problem appeared suddenly while in use, no physical shock, maybe a power surge or bad internal cooling?! The fan (that cools the T-CON) runs permanently, starting from the first few seconds from power on (don't know if this is normal, it was not mine until it had the problem).

The pot on the PSU board says "ADJ 390V", no idea what about it.. I may try a slight adjust on it also.

      Thank you!

Re: EIZO FlexScan SX3031W - vertical lines artifacts

That fan looks like it is there to pull some extra heat out or add cool airs in
But, that probably only allowed the altera to last as long as it did. They usually fail in 1-2years
So, that altera chip is probably what your issue is.
I have redone over 150 of these damn boards.
That board is no longer made. Samsung stopped making is a few years ago. So the only option is to remove the chip and reintall it with new solder balls.
I do not recommend reflowing, but that may get it back up for a while

Wow! Straight to the point, seems it is the same TCON as in the Samsung 305T.
Found this https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...t=10164&page=3, and it looks similar to my problem.

I'll take the TCON to a reflow specialist and see what is the result.
Thank you all for helping out! I will come back with the results.

Re: EIZO FlexScan SX3031W - vertical lines artifacts

            Good new!
Professionaly reballed today and seems to work.

Did not had time to comprehensively test it, but at least the OSD looks clear, no artifacts, no left side vertical lines artifacts.

One success story, a knowledge stone added and a remarkable display saved from going to trash bin.

One notice is that the chip is very hard to reball, because of the attached heat spreader. The balls just don't melt to the pads on the dark infrared station and had to be reworked out with the hot air gun three times.

All your advices were very helpful in diagnosing the problem.
            Thanks again for helping out!

              Hi all,

Thank you so much for posting this. Based on these posts I was able to fix two flexscan monitors. I made a youtube video
showing the whole repair process. If you want to check it out, you can find it at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pKXCZO7OrY

Hope this helps keeping more of these wonderful monitors running...

              Best regards,
              Dave.

                Screen Display Vertical Multicolor Lines
                by Stanley1843
Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

                Samsung QN50Q60t lines on screen

                Hi all
I have lines on the screen...which is an age old problem that can be remedied by watching Youtube videos and getting out the tape.
My issue (after successfully fixing a different sammy tv with a separate tcon board and isolating the side of the panel...):

This tv has an integrated tcon...so it is a bit more confusing when trying to isolate the clocks.
It has a c ribbon and i have taken each end out to see if that will isolate the lines. instead, it makes it much worse ALL over the tv!

So....i don't know what end of the C ribbon to work with...

                Samsung QE50Q67TAU - horizontal lines
                by Rubenlily
                Hello,

First of all I'm new here. While looking I found this amazing forum and I'm very happy I did. Now for my problem:

I picked up a Samsung UHD QLED QE50Q67TAU from 2021 for $50 knowing it was defective. The seller said it had black lines and that it could get stuck in boot randomly.

I've tried a new power cable, hard reset, opening up and jiggling all cables, pressing everywhere to see if I get a reaction but I've gotten nothing. I've tried the tape method but I've only managed to get the lines worse.

I'm no expert but I've done the tape...

Sony XBR-65X750D Horizontal lines bottom of screen
                by ggil44
Hi, I have a Sony XBR-65X750D that has horizontal lines at the bottom 6 inches of the screen. These lines appear to be every other line because the picture is still quite visible behind those lines. The lines appear all the time with a few other lines above and below the 6 inch level blinking on and off at about 2 second intervals. I'm not sure if this is a panel issue or power supply/main board problem. I did replace the T-Con board without any change in the problem. Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

                by x_orange90_x
I just acquired this 3D LED yesterday and it has horizontal lines on a little more than half of the screen. When I first turn it on it has thin black lines going across that makes the image look serrated, and then shortly after patterns of thicker red lines fade in. If I turn it off and right back on it will reset to just the black lines and the red will again fade onto the screen.

I initially thought tab bonds, but flexing the bezel makes no difference, and the fact the image sort of resets after cycling power is different. I haven't opened it up yet to actually test applying...
