    Lcd monitor test

So it's time to repair this monitors with broken psus (bad main mosfet, rectifier shottcky diodes..) therefore i was watching for some repair techniques, i've read about the lamp in series and simultaneous use of a variac, since this tool is not on every hobbist house i wanna supply the transformer with what i have, ie 24v maximum (universal latptop psu or 2x12v lead batteries), i wonder if the psu can output a readable voltage, maybe without changing the feedback circuit it will go, under very low or null load, to maximum 4-5v where normally there are 12v and at 100% duty-cycle, but this ensures a right functioning? After to protect circuit i have to insert somewhere 2x 12v lamps in series to protect primary side.. i've read about starting the variac at 70v if i remeber but i don't have a 70v supply source.. thanks, bye.

    Re: Lcd monitor test

just use mains running through a halogen spotlamp.
if it's gonna blow, it's gonna blow - the lamp is just to reduce the chances.

a variac is going back to the old crt tv days - it can cause more damage than good on modern psu's because it can simulate a "brownout" condition with the supply looping between powerdown & start till it blows!

Hi, thanks, i've read about possible problems but not possible damages (to my memory), i don't understand well your last sentence, you want to say that the psu ic is designed to test the ac level so he expect in input at least a 110Vac rectified/filtered? So he needs an input to the Vin (startup voltage pin) as well as Vcc input and 24v are too low and ic shuts down? I have changed 4 main mosfets, them blows and the components spending as reached the monitor value... but i don't like to throw the sponge...

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

Dell monitor PSU vs Dell laptop PSU
        by keepread
        Hi there!
Someone gave me their old monitor, it's Dell S2715ht.
The owner was using it when his PSU began to smell and then to smoke. It literally began to melt. He turned the monitor off, pulled the PSU, and ditched it because it was smelly even after it cooled. So I got the monitor but not the plug.
Now, I tried to bring the monitor back to life, by plugging one of my many Dell laptop PSUs. They are of the same 19.5V, and the wattage of the laptop PSU is higher than that which the monitor is rated for. Visually, the socket on the monitor seems compatible, and the plug plugs...

        AOC AG493UCX 49-inch monitor - Firmware request
        by wattage
        Hello Badcaps Community,

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.

The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...

LG 23MP55HQ LED Monitor turns off after a few seconds or flickers.
        by Rick_1234
        Good evening, gentlemen.

I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.

To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.
