    Issue with HP LP3065

    Hi all,

    Having a major issue with a HP LP3065 30" Monitor I recently purchased from ebay. It was working without issue when I first used it for about 4 hours but I went off for a nap and returned to a strange, repeating noise (every 5 seconds or so...) with the monitor on standby. When I fired it up it still displayed an image but was flickering horribly and making a more continuous noise. Here is a video I uploaded to youtube that shows the display and also the noise (albiet a bit exaggerated by the close proximity of the microphone at the end...)

    I have tried different cables (signal and power) and different sources but with no luck. Even with no signal cable connected the monitor still makes the strange noise when you turn it on, so I don't think it is an issue with my computer or cabling.

    Haven't opened it up yet, instead thought I would ask for advice first to get an idea of where to start...

    I saw another thread on here that sounded similar at first (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...ghlight=lp3065) but that poster didn't seem to have any picture at all, so I'm thinking my problem is different...

    I don't know how to fix your monitor but I can just clarify the every 5 secs behaviour in standby mode. This monitor briefly enters a higher power state every 5 secs when in standby. IIRC it does this to scan the input ports for signal to see if it should wake up.
    On a working monitor you can notice this behaviour in standby by listening on the unit's backside for a discrete tick every 5 secs, or by examining the power draw from the wall socket which has a small spike every 5 secs.

      I would open it up and inspect the power supply board, start by looking at the capacitors, post good clear pictures of the boards also.

        That sounds like the high voltage to ccfl's arcing, could be bad or broken connection on inverter, bad plug to ccfls or cracked ccfl. I have seen cracked ccfl's work and be intermittent.

          Horsey for me you are right, that thread seems enough different from your case... bad soldering on ccfl terminals could be.. after if the tcon has a ground connection to the same metal frame where ccfl voltage discharge, one can also think that a fault could happen to the TCON before or after..

            It seems that this model probably uses the lm300w01 or wq3 screen like on the one dell based on the fact that it uses an lm300w01 sta2 t-con also posted in the other thread
            If that is the case, the inverter is probably the same as the dell and would be split into two zones which means half of it will stay on even if a bulb on the other half is burned or unplugged.
            so you should be able to eliminate half of the bulbs of the screen at one time by unplugging one bulb to see if it is indeed a bulb issue

              I believe the LP3065 / EZ320A series uses an LM300WQ5-STA2 screen.

                well
                they may use both !!!??? (apple uses 4 models so I guess hp may use two !!)
                if you go to the link in the first thread that leads to an old thread,

                and that thread has a wq3 inverter and an sta2 controller board pictured .
                Only way to ever be sure is to crack it open !!
