MAC 30inch Cinema HD

Got this in today, it has no backlights. I can force on the BL_ON.
Locate the problem to the T-CON-Main board combo, blown SMD fuse. Pain in the butt to take apart. Very expensive monitor.

Very nice inexpensive fix for such a high end monitor. Nice job!
It looks like those caps (Rubycons) have been replaced since the original manufacturing. I wonder if Apple did that to prevent "bad caps"?

You and Tom both have VERY HIGH success rates in helping people. There's a difference between those who have knowledge. And those are that able to use that knowledge to actually help people fix their electronics from a distance. THAT is a talent and a gift.
1 less Greece, and 1 less Italy, and this forum would be at high levels of helping again (in my humble opinion). 2 too many prima donna's. But what do I know. <-- Wait, I forgot to finish that last sentence with a question mark

Haha, I do the same!

So, it is interesting to note that the mainboard in the monitor has some SMD capacitors (electrolytic or polymer - hard to tell), but for some capacitors, they used through hole electrolytics! I wonder why.

Also, why is it that T-con fuses always blow, even when there is no short circuit?

There are two fuses on that board, it is the T-CON + Video proc-logic board all in one, the fuse that blown was for the logic board. The other board is the power supply distributor, USB HUB and Fire ports. No short circuit that I found, the current draw is about 1A, but the in-rush was over 3A. I burn it in for 8 hours before giving back to the owner.
