MAC 30inch Cinema HD
Got this in today, it has no backlights. I can force on the BL_ON.
Locate the problem to the T-CON-Main board combo, blown SMD fuse. Pain in the butt to take apart. Very expensive monitor.Never stop learning

Re: MAC 30inch Cinema HD
Very nice inexpensive fix for such a high end monitor. Nice job!
It looks like those caps (Rubycons) have been replaced since the original manufacturing. I wonder if Apple did that to prevent "bad caps"?
Thanks for all you do out here budm. We REALLY appreciate you -

"budm when you will update your ID from Knowledge Seeker to a Pro ( in 10 years) ,
then I will take you more seriously, for now you are just a kid playing with it keyboard.
By my opinion you do not own even half than the understanding of Tom regarding electronics.
From the other hand Tom goes by the book due his limited experiences which he will improve in time,
those additional experiences they will help him to improvise too by using the limits of hardware with out causing a disaster."Last edited by budm; 01-12-2014, 01:33 AM.Never stop learning

Oh wow. I missed those flames. *falls of chair laughing*
You and Tom both have VERY HIGH success rates in helping people. There's a difference between those who have knowledge. And those are that able to use that knowledge to actually help people fix their electronics from a distance. THAT is a talent and a gift.
1 less Greece, and 1 less Italy, and this forum would be at high levels of helping again (in my humble opinion). 2 too many prima donna's. But what do I know. <-- Wait, I forgot to finish that last sentence with a question markComment

Re: MAC 30inch Cinema HD
Haha, I do the same!
So, it is interesting to note that the mainboard in the monitor has some SMD capacitors (electrolytic or polymer - hard to tell), but for some capacitors, they used through hole electrolytics! I wonder why.
Also, why is it that T-con fuses always blow, even when there is no short circuit?Muh-soggy-kneeComment

Re: MAC 30inch Cinema HD
There are two fuses on that board, it is the T-CON + Video proc-logic board all in one, the fuse that blown was for the logic board. The other board is the power supply distributor, USB HUB and Fire ports. No short circuit that I found, the current draw is about 1A, but the in-rush was over 3A. I burn it in for 8 hours before giving back to the owner.Never stop learning

So I have this home cinema with only the subwoofer and the central speaker working. The unit boots up with blue light, so no protection mode nor short detected. All fonctions are available (radio, cd, aux etc...).
I have the schematic of it but no idea what to look at and how. Seems that the sub and center speaker are both connected to the same relay but I don't get how the 3 other have failed as they are all powered from the same supply? How can I diagnose it safely?-

by rakonjaHello everyone! I am the owner of a Philips 42PFL7008k/12 TV! It served me well all the years. Sometimes it used to get "stuck", after which I used to disconnect it from the voltage, hold the power button on the device for about 30 seconds, and after turning it on again, it worked like new!Only once it threw something like no software! Now it happened that it won't turn on anymore, the red LED blinks twice!Do you have any suggestions? They are probably not cost effective to repair, but I am sorry to get rid of it, it has served me well and looks like new!The only downside is the slow...

by courtcircuitHello
I have since a long time a Philips HTS8010S/01 which has been old but was doing the job.
Since a few days, it starts by making a weird "static" nois when switches on for a few seconds to a minute and then works like a charm.
Noise loudly outputs from the 3 channels, even if no signal is sent by the controler.DVD to the subwoofer/amp unit.
I was thinking of a soldering that was starting to be damaged and that was only doing the job after a few seconds of heating, most probbaly on the power board
Removed each of tyhe boards

by roxboy1984Please could someone help or advise. I have an Apple Cinema Display A1316 and it all of a sudden is taking a really long time to come on. I assume it's probably a capacitor related issue on the power board, I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar and if these monitors are easy and or worth trying to get repaired. Thanks in advance for the help.

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....-
