Usage of ultra low esr capacitors on lcd power boards

I recently repaired a Samsung 930B monitor power supply board by replacing the capacitors.

For a couple of the capacitors I used Panasonic FR series capacitors which I understand fall in the category of being ultra low ESR.

The monitor turns on and functions, but I've gotten worried because after doing some reading on the forum, it is not a good idea to use ultra low ESR capacitors on power supplies.

So, for long term stability (I really like this monitor), would it be advantageous to pull the FR capacitors out and put in some capacitors like from the Panasonic FC series? Or should I just leave it alone?

    Thanks,
    Justin

The thing you have to worry about using too low ESR is the stability of the power supply and how was it is designed to tolerate wide ESR range, some may become unstable and oscillate. To find that out you will need the scope to look at out put and see waht kind of high frequency signals you are seeing at the outputs. I would not worry about it. The power supply designed for the monitor are very basic not like for precision voltages needs in mother board.

I would not worry about using the FR series as they are being advertised as having a much longer life span than the Panasonic FM/FC series. If you look at the spec sheets for the FR/FM series, you'll see the specs for ripple current and impedance very similar. In some cases the ESR for the FR series is actually higher than the FM series. The FR/FM/FC series are recommended by a lot of members (myself included) for monitor/TV repair. You're fine leaving the FR's on the board.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
        by PantherDave
        Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

        Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74 power issue

        Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

Panasonic switching power supply daughter board has two 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors which I do not keep in stock
        by sam_sam_sam
I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board

        After all of...

Philips 196V3L monitor power led off
        by mikey5791
Hi, i was given this lcd monitor last week with the issue of power led blinking. Upon checking the power board, i found 2 pieces electrolytic caps bulged and replaced them.
Later, when i switched on ac power and detected 5v and 15v dc at output pins. But as soon as i pressed on the front power button, the led on power button lights for 1 second and it turns off.

So, i tried disconnect the flex ribbon cable from t con board. But all i got is a white screen with nothing on. I suspect there is something short somewhere that prevent the display being turned on. Can someone with...
