    Dell 1504FP Monitor Year of Manufacture 2002

    Hi,

    I have a Dell 1504FP Monitor which has no power. I have tried to open it and checked the caps but they don't seem bad to me.

    Attached please find photos of the monitor.

    Thanks,
    Matthew

      As with the other:
      Has no power - means absolutely no voltages anywhere and no power led? - check your power cable and fuse if you have one- try another cable.
      Power off test all the fuses there are 2 black barrel ones but there may be more.

      Next thing to check with the power on and it all connected Meter on VDC200 black lead on a ground screw test each pin on the connector that goes to the main board and post the results and if it says on the board what they should be post them as well.

      Whilst the caps may not look bad they all appear to be a poor make.

      I prefer to start off measuring resistance and low voltages before measuring the BIG cap.
      For the barrel fuses you put meter on ohms 200 and touch the probes together
      - should read 0.00 or near. No power to the boards - unplug find the solder joints for the fuses on the underside of the board and put one probe on each - should be same as touching the probes together.

      Testing High Voltages -You need to have good leads on your meter - not cracked or splitting - Big Cap -you need to set your meter on vDC600 or autoranging ( Assuming it is digital and not analogue) and with the power on touch a probe onto each leg.
      Some members use aligator clip probes for this. If you cannot get to the legs (looks a bit tight on this monitor) then you have to find the solder joints on the underside and do the measurment there.

      Do NOT touch the heatsinks with fingers or probes.

      Work on a non conductive surface and make sure the boards/frame etc dong touch wjere they shouldnt - some members use cardboard to separate.

      When you report back there are simple test to do on the Inverter board in pic 3

        So far I have tested the following:
        - Fuses seem to be fine.
        - Resistance of Fuses is also fine

        Will check the others and keep you posted soon.

          The inverter is different on this model It has 2 TM115 transformers which are quite difficult to obtain so I hope they are ok. I dont have the Pin Out for these so you will have to discover which are the pins for the secondary circuit.
          Draw a rough pic and number the pins 1 to 9 or whatever - start at the end nerest the end of the board - the end with th e least number of pins. Power OFF Meter on 2000
          ohms test pin1>pin2 Pin1 > pin3 Pin 1>Pin4 and so on then Pin2>pin3 pin2 >pin3 Pin2>pin4 to pin 2 >pin9 then pin3 >pin4 pin 3 >pin5 etc etc At some point you will get something in the range 600 to 1200 ohms make a note of those pins and check the same pins on the other transformer. and report results

          I cant see the board number in the picture can you post it - may have to buy a board ( If available) if transformers are unabtainable

            Re: Dell 1504FP Monitor Year of Manufacture 2002

            So I have done some more tests as you told me:
            - The big cap is giving a reading of 322V

            When tested the pins of the invertor board with VDC200, I had the following readings:
            PIN1 -> -0.03
            PIN2 -> -0.03
            PIN3 -> -0.03
            PIN4 -> 0
            PIN5 -> 0
            PIN6 -> 0
            PIN7 -> 0
            PIN8 -> 0
            PIN9 -> 0
            PIN10 -> -0.05
            PIN11 -> 0
            PIN12 -> 0

            Please find attached a picture to see which pins I tested.

            The model number of the power board is:
            Samsung BN44-00053C
            C020828557 Rev.B

              while testing, i heard a small noise from the board, like a tiny buzzing noise.

                Voltage on big cap is spot on! Please check with us before testing sockets
                Whatever you do dont test the 4 small white sockets on the end of that board. Could be 1200 volts!!! and will fry lot of meters
                The buzzing is from the transformers and whilst annoying is usual

                What is the number on the inverter board. may be similar to the power board number

                Attached is a pic showing where to do the 2000ohm resistance test mentioned above. There is also a small white fuse marked in Green
                Please check that also - Ohms 200 probe on each end should read similar
                to holding probes together

                  hehe, i could have had a good shock hehe.

                  The only number on the inverter board that I can find is: CS0236023089A

                  There is no picture as an attachment, but I assumed that regarding the fuse, here is the reading: 0.00 You are right this is the same as touching both probes together.

                        You still need to test this connector - meter on vDC200 black probe on ground screw check each pin with red probe and post result with pin description if there is one on the board. eg 12v 5v ps-on b-on dim

                          How about the other transformer? unusual if both secondaries have gone
                          Meter was on ohms 2000? remeber powwr of f if you have been doing the previous voltage test for which you should have had it on.

                            Let me test the other transformer too. My meter has a choice either on 200K or 20K. I usually use it on 200k

                              I think that is going to be part of the problem on 200k scale 1 would be 1000ohms?
                              Post a picture of your meter. I have to go now - will look in again tomorrow.

                                  Look again. Your multimeter clearly has a 2000, 20k, 200k, and 20M setting for resistance.
