I was affraid that you will say that. I can't figure out which IC is the PWM IC.

That is correct, we need to find out the P/N of that IC is as shown in post16.

Do you have a technique how to get the info from that IC?
I have tried cleaning it with alcohol, but it didn't help at all. Not sure what is that shiny stuff on the left side.

Re: Please help with Samsung Syncmaster 2333SW CCFL Bulbs

I wanted to report back that today I finally was able to get this monitor working again. It has been a very long learning process that is for sure.

This information helped me out greatly. I caught myself almost making this mistake repeatedly with various tools I was working with during the bulb replacement. I kept thinking of this comment the entire time I was working on this project and I have to say it was very helpful.

I want to thank Budm and Retiredcaps for the bulb ordering links (how to and where). I have to say my ordering experience was one of great learning. As I stated in my first post, I did not want to disassemble the screen again just to order bulbs out fear of unnecessary damage during the process. So instead of doing it correctly I did exactly what I should not do and just got a rough estimate of the size bulbs I needed from external measurements. I then went to the site recommended by Retiredcaps and found some bulbs in their clearance section that I thought would work for this screen. They were only $2.50 each so I went ahead and bought four of them.

When I went to install them I discovered that they were not going to work. I think the length would have been OK, but it turned out the diameter was almost double what it should have been. I really was not surprised by this result; I knew I was taking a big chance when I ordered them. I now have some long bulbs that I will use for future testing. The only other one I had for testing before this was out of a 12” laptop.

After this I ordered the longest bulbs they carried that where the correct diameter. (2.4 x 490mm Full Spectrum CCFL) These bulbs happened to be just about 15mm shorter than I would have liked but I thought they would work OK.

It turns out that I was correct and it would have been better for them to be longer by about 15mm but I did not let that stop me from using them. I did not enjoy working with them but I managed to get them in without breaking any, much to my surprise and relief. The screen now works again; the only problem is that the top left and right corners are a little darker than the rest of the screen due to the bulbs being short. It is a little noticeable but it is not too bad, at least it is not in the landfill. So to answer my original question when I started this thread 2.4 X 505mm bulbs would work great for this monitor.

That is so awesome to hear. Your first attempt and you did it. That's fantastic. Especially since it was a longer lamp. 17" are a lot easier. I think relamping is just about the hardest repair to do on an LCD. Congratulations!

If you are looking for more projects to practice with; you can check to see if you have a local electronics/TV/computer recycling place. I found one and they sold me 4 non-working LCD monitors for 20 bucks. Also Goodwill or Salvation Army type stores. I found a couple on Craigslist. I even bought a couple non-working monitors on eBay. When you get to the point where you can mix and match parts, or have extra lamps to test with. It makes it much easier. I love taking an LCD that was totally dark and useless: and bringing the life and beautiful colors back into it. ~ L-J-7 ~

Re: Please help with Samsung Syncmaster 2333SW CCFL Bulbs

Lumberjack777, thanks for the good advice. I had not considered a recycling center.

I would like to know if there is an easy way to remove/replace the little silicon figure 8's that hold the bulbs together. All I could get them to do is tear. I have to say it was very tedious work, I am hoping the next one I have to fix has bad caps. Everything I try to repair, it seems, has some crazy hard to fix problem. You learn more that way, but sometimes I would rather not learn so much.

I am attaching a picture of the repaired monitor. The picture quality sucks so I apologize in advance. The right corner is a little worse than the left one, the white background makes it really stand out.

              Thanks,
              Lloyd

                hahahahaha

Sometimes you have to push the wire up and through while pulling on the bulb to get it away from the end cap. Sometimes they'll add shrink tubing to the wire that makes it so wide it rips the rubber end cap. You can buy the CCFL lamps with the wires and end caps already included. http://www.ccflwarehouse.com/cohaccas.html

As far as getting LCD monitors with bad caps; you'll need to get some of the older ones. Here's an excellent article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague

At the recycling center all 4 monitors were old; and all 4 needed capacitors.

My buddy hear at work said you could get rid of the dark spots by painting a little white out in the corners of the screen.

CCFLWarehouse is where I bought my bulbs, they did not have anything pre-made that would work for me. I did not have a problem with the endcaps, the pair of bulbs had little clear figure 8's every three or four inches that connected the two bulbs together and they just would not slide down the bulbs without tearing. Needless to say they did not get reused and I did not think to order some beforehand. http://www.ccflwarehouse.com/figure8s.html I will try to do it better on the next one, but you have to start somewhere and I was just happy to get the stupid thing to stay on.

There was heatshrink on the old bulbs connection but that did not cause any problems. The new bulbs also have heatshrink now in addition to new endcaps since they were to short to reach the original caps. I was making sure there was not going to be any arcing.

The monitor I fixed before this one had a bad SMD resistor in the protective circuitry that tested good cold ~100K but as soon as you applied power, it would shoot to over 1M. It was pure luck that I put my meter on that resistor immediately after powering it off so I could see the resistance drop from way too high down to normal as it cooled. It was about to drive me insane until I discovered this was the cause of the 2 second to black problem in that monitor.

Nevermind. The AAT1168B is a 32-pin package, yours is only 16-pin.

I no longer have the monitor I repaired, it belonged to a friend. The service manual I have attached has a power that was very similar to the one in the 2333SW. Page 87 shows the inverter supply and the IC that matched what I was working with. The one I was working on, like the one in the PDF, was on a daughter board that was soldered directly to the supply. I could not find a datasheet for that IC and I spent a lot of time looking for one. Your power board may be totally different, you will have to determine that for yourself. Hopefully this is helps you.

Something weird happened, I was measuring the BF IC and at pin 15(seems like a FET output) and I heard some buzzing sound and after that the TV just came back to life. I can't imagine what happened, but I'm glad that it works.
                                Hopefully will last too.

                                    Hi,

This monitor previously is my main working monitor which i have been using for 8~9 years. Yesterday, when i switched on my pc from fresh to power on, the monitor is just black no display. I started dismantle to look inside the monitor power board but nothing looks suspicious or burnt. So i took my external ccfl inverter to try to power the monitor ccfl lamps which consisted of 2 lamps on upper part and 2 lamps on the lower part.

Found out the upper ccfl lamp which is supposed to connect to cn304 on the power board did not light up. Then i installed a used working...

                                    Hi folks,

I'm new here and was wondering whether you might be kind enough to give me some advice on troubleshooting the following problem:

Quite a few years ago now, a couple of years from new, my Samsung Syncmaster 740BF LCD monitor starting playing up by making a buzzing noise and then the display would go blank.
