Another dead Samsung 245BW - No screen, Power LED ok

Hey, everyone. My Samsung 245BW died the other day, making me quite sad. No problems at all, not even a flicker during the five years I had it, then all of a sudden, black screen. The power LED remained on, but nothing showed up at all. I was going to throw it out, but someone suggested it might just be a bad capacitor or two in there, so I went and opened it up.

And I have no idea what I'm looking for. I'm very new to electronics repair and only recently begun to learn how to solder at all. So everything in here is pretty much completely foreign to me.

I've added some pictures I took (sorry for the quality, lousy camera + shaky hands + bad angle, I can retake them if needed). The capacitors all look the same to me, so I'm beginning to wonder if any of them are bad after all. Further, I'm really not sure how to test them. So I guess my questions are:

    1) At a quick glance, does anything look like it's at fault here?
    2) How do you test individual components to find out? All I have is a multimeter.
2a) Where do you even begin to test said components? Just pick one and work your way from there?

The only thing I saw that even looks weird to me is in the first and last picture. It looks like one of the pins of one of the chips (circled in red) doesn't have solder on it. I can't imagine that sort of thing just falls off, so it's probably always been that way, so I doubt that could be the issue... could it?

Did you check those three 68 Ohms resistor in pic#4? they have glue all over them, those glue must be removed from the board since it is corrosive and also conductive.
There are many many posts on this model that you can search for in the forum.

No, I didn't check those resistors yet. Why would the glue be an issue? It's been there the whole time, and I don't see any of it on the board itself. Also, how would you go about removing it?

As I indicates, these glue are corrosive and will conduct electricity when it gets old. I use Alcohol to soften them first.
I can see more glue by the red rectangular fuse above the IC and at the bottom left by the heat sink.
When glue was new it was white/yellowish color, as it gets older it will turn brown, then dark brown. If it is applied around high voltage section, it'll start arcing. You can remove it now or wait till it get worst and take out the board.

If it was there to start with, once I remove it, should it be reapplied? Or apply something else in its place?

No need to apply any glue, they put them on in case the monitor will be transported a lot. They no longer use this kind of glue any more, the new stuff is more pliable and Silicone base.

Re: Another dead Samsung 245BW - No screen, Power LED ok

Forgive me for bringing this old thread up but my problem is very similar as this one, Power LED button lights up, computer shows this monitor is working but the screen is not lit up. I did clean the glue off all the parts that had glue on them but still no lighting up. I too am very much a novice on this but I know to wear electronic throw away gloves and ground myself from static but anything more than cleaning it and I don't want to mess up a potentially good monitor.

What else should I look for or test and how do I go about this?

Same problem with my sharp solid green LED but inverter board not lighting my display.

Anyone? Guess I might have to just start a new thread about this. Would like to know if I can test a resistor without having to remove it from the board.

Yes, you can measure the resistor/s without removing them.

If you do a search for 245BW, there are several large threads that address the same issues.

                          by Chrissygizmo
Hello everyone, I’ve just been given a Samsung UE55JU6800K smart tv as it had white spots on the screen due to the led lenses falling off. After refitting them & putting the tv back together I thought it was a nice easy fix for a free bedroom tv , then I tried it before screwing the back into place. I realised that the right side of the screen was darker than the other side, I removed the screen again as I thought the backlights had failed but they are fine.
I put the screen back in place & turned it back on . The screen seemed to be ok again but different screens on the same...

samsung galaxy ao2s very temperamental after screen replaced
                          by Chrissygizmo
Hi , I've recently replaced the screen in my Samsung galaxy ao2s, at first it wouldn't even turn on, it had the charging symbol on the screen when plugged in but the green circle wasn't going around to show it charging....
Ive eventually managed to get it on and working but it's very temperamental...

The battery icon always reads as 50% , when the phone goes into lock screen mode i sometimes can't get the screen back on unless I plug the charger in to get it to light up, also it keeps putting the camera app on.. u think it could be something to do with the side buttons. ...

Hi all , thanks for having me & I think this has been asked before but my case seems a bit odd.
I have a MacBook Pro , board 820-2915a and it turns on , chimes etc etc , keyboard lights up, fans spins , can turn caps lock on/off but screen is dead.
Iv tried the resets , shine torch through back logo , nothing , it seems the screen has no power. If I plug charger , it charges but if I disconnect battery it displays green light but won't turn on. Iv tried screen on with another board & it works & seems I'm not getting any voltage at pin 2 , next to ground pin .
                          is this...

No picture. No sound that I can tell. Backlights are on and have been checked. Flashlight test no image on screen. I replaced the Eprom chip hoping that was the problem but nothing changed.

                          HI guys!

I've got a Samsung LH82QENELGC/EN with a problem and need some advice and I hope this is the forum to use?
I'm from Norway so I'd like to apology in advance if my description of the fault is kind of simple or the names on the components are way off. 😊

the TV is powering up, working as normally and picture is all good, except a 1.5-inch-wide vertical line of snow/static across the screen.

This TV is a Signage Display/Public Display version and it's been used at my work for 4-5 years showing commercials 24/7. The fault occurred when...
