Ok - when you said "on the last test" I thought you meant testing the transformers but you meant during a running test. So yes, maybe just the fuse.

I get nothing through the fuse.

Edit: Okay, I got it out and cut the insulation off of it. ET3.15AH250VP is what's printed on it, I believe. Is this easy to find a replacement for?

Yes I believe the T means time lag (slow blow) 3.15 amps 250v

Dare I say it , even radioshack might have some if they are the right size

Though you might need some sort of holder, depending on how the original was fitted.

The original had a cap with leads on both ends, but I couldn't get those caps to come off. Maybe I can figure something out. I'm going to go by the Radioshack near where I live - they carry a good bit of stuff.

You've been a great help so far. I really appreciate it.

Replaced the fuse and it comes on, so now I'm back to where I was, at least!

What would make a high pitched tone when it's going bad?

Could be a few things - ailing capacitor, overworked transformer, underworked transformer, ccfls.
Obviously we cant hear it -can you pinpoint where it is coming from, perhaps
use a rolled up paper or card tube.
Now that you have got it back to coming on, can you shorten the time it stays on by heating the boards with a hair dryer to see if it is heat related.
Similarly you could try flexing the board gently with a piece of wood or plastic - some use a pencil with an eraser on the end.

Does anyone know if there is an alternative part number for the inverter transformer mentioned in this post? The transformer number is 784403. I've looked all over the web for this number but can't find any spec's or references for it.

GRT60-145410 brick PSU, how much of a fire hazard is this thing exactly?

I bought an Alpicool C20 fridge, which is a 60W compressor fridge that runs on 12V or 24V, which can come from either an AC/DC adapter from mains (240V here in UK) or a car battery. The fridge itself is really good quality, so I was surprised to find the power supply (DC14.5V, 4.1A) pretty questionable. Despite being 240V/1.5A the plug was fitted with a 13A fuse - concerning, but not all that uncommon for imported chinese electronics here. But when I felt how light the brick was I immediately said hell no and transferred the proprietary connector to a MeanWell GS90A12-P1M brick (this supply is...

Replacing BIOS Windond chip, present in MSI GE78HX laptop for and MXIC and what is Quad SPI
                  by barbas
Hi. In the process of troubleshooting an MSI GE78HX laptop that does turn on (on its own), turns on the backlight on and off in infinite cycle, turns on RGB keyboard backlight and light bar. The CPU gets hot, and its fan spins.

The laptop charges the battery, turns on charging lights, which leads me to think the EC (ITE5571E) is ok. Laptop has no shorts, apparently. Memory is ok, tried it in another machine. Tried 5 different sticks in this machine as well, does the same. Memory connector seems ok, no pins bent.

First, I am going to try to backup and reflash its BIOS,...

Recently I purchased a Tektronix TDS1012, a 20 years old product for cheap and I thought it could be a nice opportunity for playing (i.e. recapping) and learn something in the process.
The power supply board is exactly the same from this post so I'll just steal it for now.

Nitro 5 AN517-54-51RQ (LA-L181P) Dead after messing around with bootable bios mod!
                  by gustaznkr
Hey guys! I've recently found out this amazing forum where people talk and discuss about electronics repairs and i'm actually amazed with everything that here's have to offer.

Oh well, i came here looking for a simple bios file in order to get my main laptop working again, but after a while trying to figure out what the hell was going on, i'm quite concerned that it would be worse than i tought. I was fooling around with Mr. Smokeless's UMAF BIOS mod, looking for a way to enable CSM compatibility and legacy boot on my device.

                  Device specs:
