The Ccfls in these tvs are some of the thickest bulbs I have seen used in a tv. I got a smashed one and took it appart tomtake the bulbs out and they are huge ! There is only two bulbs as well will see if I can get some pics.

Yes - I did hear about this being an efficient low cost panel. While I had this TV, I wasn't too displeased with the picture, but the lack of a zero-overscan option meant it went on gumtree the week after...

Fair enough my mom has a Logik tv which I have recapped uses the same panel and bulbs, seems to have decent picture decent contrast and colour, gets fairly bright even with Bl on low. I know what you mean about the over scan not too awful noticeable though.

Was trying to use it as a PC monitor, so it's essential to have 1:1 mapping. Such an easy option to add, shame they missed it, after I recapped the whole thing with top class Panny FRs too!

Still using my trusty Iiyama that I got from the work skip, and a cheap "e-motion" LED TV I bought off a friend mounted on a dual monitor mount, but will replace them soon with dual 27" monitors (possibly 4K if any going cheap, as long as they have a warranty...)

Yeah they didnt add it in the menu on this and its a completely different chassis. I think that 4k monitors would actually be ok but that depends on how much you use them I dont like the idea of 4k too many rows and lots to squeeze into them drive Ic packs brining more potential for failure.

I have seen faulty 4k tvs on ebay with lines out already indicating failures with the driver packs one of the main reasons why I hate lcd just not very reliable. What do you think of 4k ?

                4K on a TV = basically pointless
4K on a PC = orgasmic. great for CAD and engineering. pair it with dual GTX980 (a man can dream!) in SLi and I might even be able to play GTA V in 4K@60fps. that would be amazing.

As I'm close to the monitor, 4K matters. 4K on TVs doesn't matter until you get to 70"+ in a normal UK living room where you're less than 10 foot back from the TV.

Drive pack failures could be an issue on larger screens but I have never seen a small form factor panel (sub 26") have such failures. I believe the panel capacitance is lower resulting in less power dissipation, and PC monitors generally are made to a higher standard than a TV. PC hobby/supply business has a lot of reputation built into it, so manufacturers are not quick to pump out complete garbage.

The failures with LCD panels are (virtually) all down to the bonding of the source drivers. If this is right, the panels usually last. Hence why you rarely see Sharp or LG panels with failures (some models excepted)

Plus, I will get multi-year warranty, probably via some good retailer...

Hmm thats true about panels smaller than 26" using alot less power however 4k ones again have to cram more into the packs but hopefully they dont have much issues on the smaller ones I have never actually seen a tv below 22" with tab bond issues so you are very likely correct.

Best to get the multiyear warranty as well just incase never know with lcd haha

no need to get conned by bitches like Argos charging extra for warranty they already have to provide!

I mean, in theory, here's the crazy thing. The newer Vestel panels with one large chip on the panel should be -more- reliable than the old ones. Hey? what?!

Well, the failure is the solder under the IC...and the IC has less total solder balls than all the ICs it replaced, put together...so less areas to fail... Also, it dissipates less power by using a higher technology node...Not to mention, the gate-in-panel design should be much more reliable (no gate bonds on the side of the panel) It remains to be seen, of course.

FWIW, this 24" had six bonds. I could see them from the top of the T-con. The iiyama was the same and had a similar chimei panel, which I have to say is a helluva lot better than the generic panel in the e-motion (colour balance way off at neutral K)

Yep, and Costco will extend to 5 years for little extra charge.

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

                            Hello Badcaps Community,

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.

The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...

                            Good evening, gentlemen.

I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.

To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.

Looking through my repair pictures and notes, it's been a long time since I posted anything in the LCD monitors section. So here goes that.

I'm dedicating this thread to one of the very first LCD monitors I repaired (if not the first one), which was more than 10 years ago now. The monitor is a Wise Wing, model F199. It's a 19” CFL-backlit LCD. I got it for free off of Craigslist in 2009 from a guy, who said he bought it for cheap from Wallmart and the monitor worked only for a little less than 2 years before quitting.

When I saw the Craigslist post, I wasn't...
