Badly blown cap on a Neotec 600DX-2 Monitor

Working on an arcade monitor, and stumbled across this badly blown cap. The circuit this cap is in is well known for chain-reaction catastrophe... however judging by the other swollen caps on the board this guy was hurting well before the explosion. There was a smaller cap nearby that had completely vaporized, leaving just a fluffy stringy mess and two leads sticking up from the board. There was foil confetti all over the board.

This picture is simply for the enjoyment of it, I regretably did not grab the name brand of this cap. I have a few more pictures on my camera that might have the name brand. If they do, I'll make sure I update the thread.

Edit: Found the rest of the pics... Enjoy!

And for the fun of it, a resistor in the same circuit that blew its side off during the "event" (and me holding another burned one from a nearby circuit)...

Judging by the vent pattern, that would be a Teapo (also known as Cheapo).

TeaKAPOW in this case. The game was in a bar. The person working the kitchen that day said she could hear the noise when it popped very clearly. The kitchen is easily 30 feet from the game, with a wall separating them.

Apparently, there was a person playing the game at the time... I can't imagine how it must have scared them!

Looks like a cat had a fur ball in there .

I'm willing to bet that stringy stuff is paper fiber from the electrolyte soaked separators between the positive and negative plates of the cap.

Well at least the foil didn't bridge any through hole components on the board or the component body count would've been higher.

Just by looking at the vent I'd also say they were Teapos. They use a Y shaped vent with 3 tick marks just like that.

Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
            by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

Acer AL1916 monitor PSU repair (DM0565R blown)
            by Radio Fox
I'm repairing an Acer AL1916 monitor PSU at the moment. The 400v high voltage smoothing capacitor C114 is measuring completely O/C. The case of U101 has blown apart. Fuse F101 has blown. ZD121 reads 6 Ohms in both directions & ZD120 reads 99 Ohms in both directions. While looking at the data sheet of U101 (DM0565R), I noticed that the absolute maximum voltage for Vcc is 20v. However, the zener diode across the Vcc pin to GND is a 1N4748A (22v).

Now, whether that zener is used to constantly regulate the voltage, or whether its's used to protect the Vcc voltage from rising too high,...

            AOC AG493UCX 49-inch monitor - Firmware request
            by wattage
            Hello Badcaps Community,

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.

The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...

            Hi Everyone

Lately I am experiencing the deja-vu incident on one of the led monitor like this.

The monitor will randomly blackout and display no signal and will recover again.
Sometimes need to power and off again to restore the display but...

LG 23MP55HQ LED Monitor turns off after a few seconds or flickers.
            by Rick_1234
            Good evening, gentlemen.

I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.

To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.
