    Acer V223W

    I have a backlight issue with an Acer V223W (4 Lamp) Inverter board. ID is E59670 0843-2 491961400100R I replaced the Nichicon caps on the board with new exact matching caps. Checked fuses at F801 FB702. Installed the board and I get nothing. It is as if I have no voltage at all. I checked the bridge rectifier and it was O.K. I metered continuity from the AC socket thru the board to high voltage output side. All checked out. Anyone ever seen this before? What am I missing? Thanks

    Same comment about Nichicon in your other thread.

    Your description of the problem is very unclear.

    1) Are you getting a power LED on?

    2) Does the backlight flash at all?

    3) If you hookup a computer with your favourite desktop wallpaper, can you see it by shining a flashlight on the lcd?

    4) Post pictures.

      To amplify on retiredcaps' response, there are several failure modes. They range from 'everything dead' to 'almost works perfectly'. Examples include:

      1. With AC power to the monitor it doesn't get warm, the power LED does not come on, even when the power button is pushed, and (of course), there is nothing on the screen.

      2. With AC power to the monitor it gets slightly warm, but there is no power LED, no response to the power button, nothing on the screen.

      3. With AC power, the power LED flashes rapidly. There is no response when the power button is pushed.

      4. With AC power, the power LED flashes briefly every time you push the power button. If you repeat this often enough, eventually it starts working.

      5. The power LED comes on normally. The screen stays black. An image can be seen if the screen is illuminated with a bright light.

      6. The power LED comes on normally. The desktop appears for a second or two, then the screen goes black. The image can be seen with a bright light.

      7. The power LED comes on normally, but all you get is a white screen.

      8. There is a display, but colors are wrong, vertical or horizontal lines,

      1. Is a failure of the SMPS caused by bad capacitors, blown fuse, or a shorted load.

      2. Is probably a bad signal (logic) card. DC voltages are present, but the processor isn't doing anything.

      3. Is either bad caps or possibly a shorted inverter.

      4. Is ALWAYS bad caps.

      5. Is a problem with the inverter.

      6. Is the classic 'two seconds to black'

      7. Is probably a bad fuse on the panel card

      8. Is trouble.

      To answer your question, you are failing to measure the output of the power supply.

        The monitor is totally Dead. No power LED indicator light, NO NOTHING. No blown fuses, Verified 120VAC input. I checked the 2.5 Amp fuse at F801 and it tested good using a fluke 16. No Backlight flash, If you can tell me how to upload picts. I will? Thanks

          What is the the DC voltage across the main filter capacitor (the biggest cap on the board - probably lying sideways)?

          In PlainBill's signature in post #4, it tells you how to upload pictures (just don't post them inline).

            I've got this exact issue with this same model (V223W) I've been told with this problem, just throw it away there is nothing we can do to fix it. And I see your answer is that its trouble lol. I do wonder what causes this. My best guess is the chip on film.
