    Mystery Monitor

    I acquired a dead 19" monitor yesterday.
Picked it up, took it home and took it out of the box.
I have no clue what brand or model it is, there's no markings on it anywhere.
Looks like a decent monitor, good shape, has speakers, and touch controls (metal buttons on a metal faceplate, see first pic)

There is a missing plastic piece on the back that might have had a sticker on it.

This thing was a dream to work on. 4 screws and the back practically fell off.
2 more screws and the metal cage came off over the power supply/inverter card.

Oh look, never seen this before...... bloated Capxons. Who'd have thunk it?

I didn't try it before opening it up. Recap first, ask questions later.

The board was good quality, nice lead solder. Almost every cap I hit with the soldapullt fell out.

7 caps later, I test the pico fuse good, and all of the T0-220 devices for shorts good, then put the board back in. Fire it up. Works!
Screen looks a bit crappy. Factory reset, and adjust brightness contrast and white balance, and it's not bad at all. Not a keeper, seems a bit washed out,
but will make a nice donation to someone in need.

Oh forgot to mention there was some nasty rotted glue that may have gone conductive. Scraped it off as well.

Nice FSP power board. Really interesting how they mounted the power receptacle off of the board. Actually looks better than some of the name brand stuff. Any idea who made the LCD panel?

I forgot to ask earlier, but in your second photo what is that little cone shaped device at the middle bottom of the panel?

That's the top part of the mount that mates with the swivel base.
I think I fixed an AOC that looked similar.

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

              Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

              AOC AG493UCX 49-inch monitor - Firmware request
              by wattage
              Hello Badcaps Community,

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.

The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...

              Hi Everyone

Lately I am experiencing the deja-vu incident on one of the led monitor like this.
              https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...lashing-on-off

The monitor is HP 27es LED Monitor
              https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Deskto...e/td-p/6804692

The monitor will randomly blackout and display no signal and will recover again.
Sometimes need to power and off again to restore the display but...
